At least was somewhat entertaining tonight. Maybe it was the Bobcats, but the Knicks played decent defense in the second half.

What makes a player great also makes him the kind of person you don't want to be around. Yes, Isiah is a complete jerk. The same could be said about pretty much every other or every 3rd superstar in any sport. Ted Williams I mentioned (by the way, an absolutely horrendous manager who thought that all pitchers are idiots), but see also Mickey Mantle and his drinking and womanizing, Steve Carlton's own prickly relationship with the press, Babe Ruth's rather large opinion of himself in his later days, and George Mikan nearly destroying the ABA when he led it. Frank Frisch single-handedly ruined the baseball Hall of Fame. And on another level, you've got Ty Cobb, Wilt Chamberlain, OJ Simpson, Denny McLain, Rogers Hornsby (who, as a manager, apparently made a habit peeing on a pitcher after he had a rough outing - I've yet to hear about Isiah doing anything like that), Pete Rose, King Kelly, Shoeless Joe Jackson, and a whole host of others. Are all those guys "wastes of DNA"? Hell no. We excuse them because they were so great to watch in their respective field. If we're smart we don't let them anywhere near our teams once they're done playing, but we still remember their good points on the court long after they're gone. The problem with Isiah as a GM and head coach is *exactly* what made him a great player. The kind of ultra-competitiveness that made him so easy to offend (think Joey Porter, only 10 times more outrageous) also raised his game. When you become a coach, though, you can't have that mentality. Some (few) people grow into a role like that. Isiah I don't think is going to because he's already expended so much energy becoming the man that he is.

What, me worry? Of course the Knicks beat the lowly Bobcats. All it took was double-overtime and a circus act tip-in with 0.1 seconds left on the clock. No problem! (What a play by Lee and Crawford, though!)
This guy has to learn about shot selection. For all the good stuff he does (see above), he hurts the Knicks regularly with his selfish over-confidence. This business must stop of handing him the ball with 20 seconds left, running down the clock to two seconds, then putting up a bomb or dishing off to somebody else who has to rush a shot. It works once in a while but not often enough and it's bad basketball.

...which is more or less what George Mikan did. Again, "waste of DNA" how?

While on the topic of the Knicks, gotta love their fans gloating to MJ after the game. All he hasto do is turn around and show him the bling on his fingers to shutup any knick fan, or simply remind them of how many times he came into the garden and shat all over them

Never said a single thing about his ability to play basketball. He took my beloved IU to a title. Then of course being the great individual he is said the entire state of Indiana is racist and he hoped to never return. Only to come and beg to coach the Pacers. He's a piece of crap and Karma is repeatedly kicking him in the butt now. Just like it did when repeatedly talked crap about Bird and made racist comment after racist comment about him then was surprised when Bird fired him. Being able to dribble a basketball is no excuse for being a horrible person. Last edited by TC Dale : 12-22-2006 at 01:10 AM. |

The Knicks can get up if they were to get rid of Isiah the Lousy and trade the 14 point guards he gave up the farm for. Also quite throwing their top draft pick away on used to be's and never wuz's.
Bet Frazier is sick to his stomach every night. |

I wish I was a little older so I could more fully appreciated the impact that Clyde and Joe Willie had on NYC back in the day. Man, those two were the epitome of Cool.

Yeah, Kevin Calabro is like that with the Sonics. FWIW, Frazier wrote the "Complete Idiot's Guide to Basketball", which is like Joe Morgan's baseball book only worth reading.

The Pacers were competitive when Thomas coached them. He also drafted most of the franchise in Toronto and they were a playoff team long before West finally came on board and made Memphis/Vancouver a playoff team. Granted it was in the East, but he was still successful. Now, the CBA, that's a different story. But, I remember that league already falling apart before Thomas bought the league to try and save it.

Knicks on a three-game winning streak?!?!?
They need to figure out how much of this is inspired play by who is left on the squad, and how much of this is due to the players who are NOT playing right now. And whether this success is momentary. I recall a six-game winning streak (was it six?) last January in the middle of an otherwise terrible season.
