Evans got lucky tonight. Another inch and Ortiz would have nailed that guillotine.

I would have hoped for Ortiz to win but that knee he received from Evans was just solid.

The Cain - Don Santos fight was a bit of a flop. It was 58+ minutes of talk and less than two minutes of fighting. That being said, I thought the presentation was pretty good overall, and I think the prime time Fox slots are going to be great for the sport.

Also, the current season of TUF is really good, which is much-needed after some mediocre seasons (especially a few seasons right before Lesnar-Dos Santos).

And the Hendo-Shogun fight was fantastic. Hopefully this all means the sport will continue to grow. It's been a great year for UFC and for MMA in general. The same night of Hendo-Shogun, this fight went down in Bellator involving a top-10 lightweight going up against a great prospect, and Bellator was kind enough to upload it in high def to YouTube: Full Fight: Eddie Alvarez vs. Michael Chandler - YouTube

I could not justify the $60 for the Hendo fight. Normally I go to BWW but my wife had bronchitis.

Did anyone see it? What I have read is that it was close. Full 5 round decision!!! Does anyone have an opinion on the decision?

This will probably end up in OTD with that question.

I thought Shogun pulled off a draw thanks to a totally dominant fifth round. Fightmetric apparently agrees with me. However the judges saw it differently. Either way, it was an awesome fight and a candidate for fight of the year.

I thought it was the right decision. Thought Shogun was too tired to do much damage in the fifth and felt overall that if that was a 10-8 round, then when Henderson nearly ended the fight in the third also should have created a 10-8 round.

This was the first non-title fight that was scheduled for five rounds. Interesting to think that had it been a three-rounder, we'd all be talking about how Henderson won 30-27 or 30-26.

Apologies if I seem like I am nitpicking but Leben vs Munoz was the first scheduled non-title fight for five rounds. But Hendo vs Rua was the first one to actually go the distance.

I love MMA, and I can't find people to talk about it with, unless I end up in meathead central.

Anyone else catch 140 on Saturday? Pretty wild event with a 7 second KO, a kimura that leads to a broken arm and a standing guillotine that puts a former champ to sleep.

Jon Jones is probably going to be champion for a long time.

Yeah, I think at this point Jones has at least a 70% chance of winning any LHW fight he's in, and I think that's about as high as a person could get in that very competitive division. Someone started a thread on another board that Jones 2011 might have been the best year for a fighter in MMA history. I kind of did a double-take, but he made a good argument. He's racked up several wins, all against top competition, former champs, etc., and he's won them all handily.

Yep. He beat a highly ranked contender in Bader, the then current champion in Shogun, and two highly ranked former champions in Rampage and Machida. And he finished them all. The only other year that comes close is Shogun's 2005, but I don't think that is impressive as this.

I don't know who's a real threat at this point. I just don't think Rashad has the ability to overcome Jones' freak athleticism. Even if Anderson Silva were to move up I'd probably still favor Jones.

I'm a couple weeks late on this, but UFC 141 came and went with the retirement of Brock Lesnar. I still don't know what to make of Alistair Overeem. He finally got a top HW win that didn't involve waving at a flopping Werdum, but was that the same Lesnar that ground Mir to pieces? We'll see what happens against a hopefully healed Junior Dos Santos later this year.

Also, Jon Fitch can kiss any chance at a second title shot goodbye.

Recently, the UFC has been pillaging Strikeforce of all its heavyweights and will supposedly be nixing that division for SF after the finale of the grand prix. Werdum, Chad Griggs and, reportedly, Bigfoot Silva are all on their way over. On the other side of the spectrum, they're opening up the flyweight class and having a 4-man tournament including none other than "Uncle Creepy" Ian Mccall.
