Since we already have our own little European Footy thread, a MMA thread is in need.

It's nice to see most of the major sports outlets finally catch on the UFC bandwagon. I am worried that UFC is starting to get oversaturated. Dave Meltzer's WON made mention of something around the range of 40 hours of UFC content in one week! :ahhh:

I'm not sure you can oversaturate a legitimate sport, as long as you keep showing new fights and not just re-hashing old ones Unleashed-style.

I go to MMANews.com for forums. Their news portion has all of the journalistic credibility of the New York Post, maybe even less, but their forums tend to not be as full of "lol stfu white belt (swear word thrown in to act tough)".

OK, tomorrow is the "big" night. Predictions?
The main event is a tough one to call. Upsets have been the order of 2007, but Chuck isn't exactly an unproven champion. However, if Rampage can get in on him and execute one of his big slams on him, we could certainly have a new light heavyweight champion for the first time in awhile. My prediction: Chuck retains via TKO. If Rampage had a stronger chin, I'd be giving the edge to him based on being a more multi-dimensional fighter. But if wishes were nickels, I'd be a millionaire. This time Chuck is in the cage on home turf rather than in a ring in Japan. I'll be rooting for Rampage, but I don't see it happening. Then again, 2007 has shown you just never know until someone's hand is raised. Also, it's been confirmed that Shogun is now a UFC fighter. It was also said, during the same Dana White conference call, that someone will be there to call out the winner of Jackson/Liddell. Will that person be Shogun, or a surprise challenger? If Shogun gets next shot, can either Rampage or Liddell actually beat him? (I say no, unless he comes down with a case of Cro Cop Syndrome and refuses to train in a cage or prepare for things like elbows. I can't see Chute Boxe letting that happen, though.)

I have a hunch that Rampage takes the light heavyweight belt in a 4th round KO.

Pretty much what Erik said, but there are still ongoing rumors that PRIDE will end up being merged into the UFC rather than running their own shows under the PRIDE Worldwide Holdings company that was proposed back when the deal was finalized.

It's official: The Light Heavyweight division is in turmoil. Jardine beats Chuck Liddell via split decision, Marucio Rua, who Dana White was hyping up to run over everyone was taken out in convincing fashion by Forest Griffin. Lyoto Machida defeated who I thought was one of the most underrated LHWs in Kazuhiro Nakamura.
So yeah, I guess Wanderlei Silva is next in line from the get-go? Last edited by Raderick; 09-23-2007 at 08:00 PM. |

The UFC 205 division is a mess right now with no clear number 1 contender. Wandy is on a two fight losing streak, Liddell is nowhere near the title picture, and Forrest and Jardine need one or two more wins. The way I see it the UFC can either make something like Forrest/Jardine II or Forrest/Wandy or something like that in December and throw Rampage someone like Lyoto Machida or Houston Alexander in January or they can put the title on hold for a few months until they get it sorted out.

p.s. I'm starting to buy in the Steroids in PRIDE situation more and more now that we've seen Henderson, Nakamura, Shogun and Cro Cop all fall to UFC stars. Last edited by Raderick; 09-23-2007 at 09:50 PM. |

The matchups I'd like to see at LHW :
Wanderlei vs Jardine Griffin vs Alexander Winners face each other for the #1 contender and chance to fight the winner of Rampage - Machida I doubt it happens though since the UFC really doesn't like Machida since he's not seen as exciting enough (despite the fact he's still undefeated). |
