Big Papi cleats
http://store.reebok.com/product/inde...entPage=family
Is there anyone who deserves his name on a line of baseball cleats less than David Ortiz? Frank Thomas maybe? How the hell do you even market these? Announcer: Now you can wear the same cleats David Ortiz wears when he's... ummmm.... walking to the plate.

A Big Papi basketball cleat actually makes more sense than a baseball one.

Actually, Ty Cobb would be the best at marketing cleats.

Rod - 31 so, there's some logic behind it - he had to do a fair bit of running to 2nd and 3rd base (although even I'm impressed with the fact he recorded 1 triple last season!!!) I excluded HRs because there isn't quite the running urgency on it as there is for a double or triple

If he had 1 triple, wouldnt that mean he had just 52 doubles. 54 extra bases. a double one extra, triple 2 extra. I'm nitpicking, huh.

Seems there was some confusion over at Reebox (or RBK, if you prefer their new, hip, cool, and ultimately lame trademark). This is actually Big Papi's new shoe line: Reebok + Kool-Aid = Instant Classics on PSFK

Just because Ortiz doesn't tear up the basepath doesn't mean he shouldn't have a cleat line named after him.
Roger Clemens or Barry Bonds would be much worse choices because of their negative publicity. Curtis Granderson lacks the notoriaty or market prowess of a Big Papi so he would be a far worse choice. I understand that you are associating cleats with the basepaths, but that's not what Reebok is doing.

I get that they want a well known player to market their shoes. And since the American public is so damned stupid, they'll likely make a lot of money off it. But with this product, there's no allure of being able to do something just like the person who has their name on the shoes simply because you are wearing said shoes. I mean, kids and the like could always think something along the lines of, "Now I can jump like Michael Jordan!" when they laced up a pair of Air Jordans. What are they going to think when they strap on a pair of Big Papi cleats? "Cool! Now I can walk to the plate and sit in the dugout just like David Ortiz!". But like I said, people are dumb and it will likely bring in a lot of revenue for Reebok. Which is a great move for them. The point I was trying to make was that a pair of cleats with Big Papi's name on it rates fairly high on the unintentionally funny scale.

You know PP since most Americans stand up walk to the kitchen/bathroom and sit back down, doing while wearing Papi's makes a lot of sense.
