It was a great home series.

7 straight wins, couple of incredible games from our young pitchers.
Even though Beckett and Matsuzaka are not in their top form, still winning games. (Matsuzaka has been actually horrible in last several games, and he admits it. Hitters and some luck are winning the ballgames for him)
We found another good starting pitcher (Colon) to fill the spot of Schilling, and basically everybody except for Manny is hitting well.

Our bullpen is still a concern, but I am sure FO will do something about it before the end of July. (It is pretty obvious at this point of the season that the bullpen is the only spot we have to do something about, isn't it?)

Dice-K has been a lucky old blighter this year so far.

To give up one grand slam to the Green Monster is fair enough, to give up two is just bad pitching...

Shame the Yankees are on a roll - we could be 9.5 ahead otherwise. probably won't change much this week as they head into Seattle followed by the Sox - not the week the Seahawks wanted!!!

And now Dice-K is hurt... (shoulder fatigue, they say)
Good god we have Colon.

I wish Jacoby would be a bit more aggressive on the basepaths... only 6 steals in the last two games...

Isn't it great to know that we have speed? Finally?

Here is a thread @ SOSH, regarding the Jacoby & SB.

Red Sox stolen base chronology - Sons of Sam Horn

I still remember I was so excited about getting Otis Nixon in 1994, thinking that hit speed (even though he was already like 35YO, and looked like 45YO)

I think Jacoby will easily pass Crisp, Lugo, and Nixon this year, if he is healthy.

Ortiz OUT for a month?

We may be without Papi for at least a month, they say...

Source: Ortiz out at least a month - BostonHerald.com

After injuring his left wrist during the Red Sox’ victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night, Ortiz learned yesterday he has ligament damage that will keep him sidelined indefinitely. According to a source, Ortiz’ wrist will be immobilized for roughly the next month to determine whether the injury can heal on its own.

They should be able to weather this over the next month with interleague away games coming up - CIN, PHI and HOU. Beyond that? The injury doesn't look good - hopefully its not a season ender. If its a long-term deal, and pitchers start working around Manny, might they go after Junior?

No Junior, No Bonds, please.
Papi will be back in July, and I think we will be alright with Manny, Lowell, Drew, Youk, Jacoby, Pedroia. (with some help from other guys)
I think the team has enough depth right now.
We did not have Lowell for the first several weeks of the season, and we were ok. Papi was like below .200 for the first month, and we were ok. We were without Becket for the first couple of the season, and we were ok.
I think this team is stronger and deeper than we think.

OK,

We lost Ortiz for at least a month.
Jacoby hurt his wrist today and will miss some games, and Coco may be suspended for, well, stupid retaliation for the retaliation of the retaliation , and Manny aggravated his hamstring so he may be his OWN DTD again.

And Manny and Youkilis fought in the dugout between the innings???

What the heck is going on?

We might see the Red Sox OF, going something like this in a few days.

RF Youkilis / Moss
CF JD Drew
LF Carter

I have not heard the story behind it yet.
I thought they were really close, though.
I am surprised to see this happen.

I think, as Francona said, it was just too much testosterone...

What?
Too much Sylvester Stallone?
We do not need it as much as we do not need Bonds...

The suspensions for those brawls came down today. Coco Crisp wil miss seven games, barring a successful appeal, and two other Red Sox will miss 3-5 games each.

Luckily for them, it's the M's in town this weekend. The Pawtucket Red Sox would probably take two out of three from Seattle.

According to The Boston Globe, people think it was Manny being Manny; that is, "Manny's non-chalant effort to get out to the melee and protect teammates."

Ramírez was a bit tardy getting to the bench-clearing brawl, not entering the fray until the bullpen residents had reached the mound, jogging out late with Bartolo Colon a few steps ahead of him.

Boston Globe:

Multiple Red Sox players confirmed yesterday that Thursday night's dugout altercation between Manny Ramírez and Kevin Youkilis resulted from Ramírez objecting to what he believed was excessive - and chronic - complaining about the strike zone by Youkilis in the dugout, as well as the first baseman's penchant for throwing equipment after at-bats.

Colon DLed, Daisuke will be back on Saturday, Schilling still uncertain.

ESPN - BoSox put Colon on DL, expect Dice-K to start Sat.; Schilling to see doctors - MLB

Boy, this thread was dead for like a week!

This thread is a bit like Drew's bat was this time last year...

What we need is for it to be like his bat is this year.

Remind me again, why did we pay $14,000,000 a year for him. I'm disappointed in his June figures so far
