Oakland A's 2008 Season Official Thread

It's time to get this started now with one game in the books.

Kurt Suzuki leads all of Major League Baseball in stolen bases. May this thread last at least as long as that statistic lasts!

Bobby Crosby is hitting .400

Also, GGH, I expect a scathing post about Geren's crappy bullpen management, Brown's crappy baserunning, and Street's crappy second inning of work (Geren's fault) on AFL.

I already did my game post, and I'm just way too positive this early in the season. Give me a week or two.

Call me crazy, but I think Crosby will get into over 140 games and have an OPS > .750.

I like Crosby, if he can stay healthy I think he'll be okay.

Emil Brown, on the other hand, can sit out the next 161 or so games.

I was impressed by Daric Bartons AB's. On the other hand, the A's offense as a whole this year is looking pretty pathetic. Seems to be a team that will get a larger percentage of their runs via the home run this year. I cant believe Jack Cust is a cleanup hitter.

It will not be fun to watch that guy get more than 150 plate appearances. To be honest, it won't be fun to watch that guy at all, but any more than 150-200 PAs will be brutal. Three words: Ernie Freaking Young.

Anyone have any info on Fiorentino? Who is this guy?

Well, it would seem that Brown redeemed himself today. Congrads on your opening series split.

What is Dan Johnson still doing on this team? I guess Barton is still a little sore and will take a couple days off, but still. 3 first basemen on a team is a bit much.

Julio Franco is still available. He'd be a great just in case Barton, Sweeney, and Johnson went down. Or maybe we could give Durazo a call. Troy Neel? Bruce Bochte?

Bit of a disappointment, but really we're not supposed to win a DiceK-Okajima-Papelbon matchup.

Couple things from the REAL home opener:

- Buck looks like sh*t. He's 0-17 with 7 strikeouts to start the season or wahtever, and he's really looking lost at the plate.

- Ryan Sweeney hasn't been doing much of anything either.

- This team needs offense. Cust needs to play left field and Mike Sweeney needs to DH. He's obviously healthy, so MSween needs to be in the lineup.

Aside from that, it was a good time. I got to meet and tailgate with Donnie Murphy's sister and brother-in-law, that was cool.

I no longer have the luxury of watching A's games in the afternoons on MLB.tv. Though we have TVs on where I work and I watched the Brewer game. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the A's making an ESPN day game sometime this season (yeah right).
