At this point, I'd be worried more about the Devil Rays keeping you from sealing the division. Those kiddies are playing some good baseball.

At least Louie over at Yankee Tradition will be able to harp on correctly about '30 years ago' this season. Really ired me last season that he kept 'reminding Boston fans of 30 years ago' and I couldn't find anything in 1977 that was that relevant

There's a difference between this year and last year.

Last year the Yankees just weren't getting the pitching they should have had. This year they have no pitching to really rely on. We've got two youngsters that are struggling mightily. Granted, one is hurt and won't pitch till June, but he's struggling.

And the offense. Even when the Yanks struggled last year, they scored runs. They aren't scoring runs at all. We thought we just needed Alex back. And he hits a two-run shot and apparently the rest of the lineup forgot they still need to hit too.

It's bad. I know everyone says it's still early but look at the stats. Look at the games. This isn't a slump. This is bad.

I'm going to keep the faith. However, whether they pull out of this or not, changes will be made either sooner or after the season. I really don't want to pull out the crystal ball and know what the future will be but it's gonna be big, good or bad. Hopefully, it'll be good.

Those men in pinstriped uniforms crossing home plate tonight . . . those are Yankee runs, no?

Four (4) runs after three innings - it's like a doubleheader's worth!

So, Joba will be in the starting rotation late this year.

The Official Site of Major League Baseball: News: Joba begins process of joining rotation

Rasner has been an excellent surprise this year. I doubt he'll be what Hughes was supposed to be, but if he can keep this up until Hughes comes back, Kennedy might be out of a job this year. With Chamberlain coming into the rotation, it appears like it'll be Wang, Pettitte, Mussina, Hughes (with Rasner subbing until he's healthy) and Chamberlain in the rotation.

I still think Hughes and Kennedy will be more important next year when the Yanks don't have Pettitte and Mussina.

I just wonder if the new GM will go shop happy to fill the pitching voids.

Don't forget that Pavano becomes a free agent as well at the end of the season

I won't forget. I'll be throwing a party when his salary gets off the books. Giamba, Mussina, Farnsworth, Pavano, Pettitte all coming off the books. The new GM will have lots of salary room to play with or salary will start coming more in line with the rest of the league. Either way, it'll be a happy day when I can say Pavano is no longer a Yankee.

I'll second this motion.

All of this makes tonight's start crucial to Ian Kennedy. I don't think they are going to stick with him much longer this season if he does not turn it around soon.

What a contrast when you see a confident pitcher one night (Rasner) and then a scared one the next (Kennedy and some others). Rasner comes in with strikes when he needs them. He takes his chances, of course, by getting the ball over the plate consistently but he relies on challenging hitters and getting out ahead in the pitch count. The others nibble, nibble, then either groove a pitch or end up walking the batter.
