2007 June 16th,

1st place: Boston
2nd place: New York _8.5GB
4th place: Tampa Bay _13.5GB

2008 June 16th,

1st place: Boston
2nd place: Tampa Bay _2.5GB
3rd place: New York _6GB

* I think David Ortiz will not play at least until All Star break.
* Josh Beckett is not what he was last year, and Matsuzaka has been so lucky to have the number he has right now. Boston does not have the ACE they had last year so far.
* Drew has been so hot recently, but I just do not expect him to be "Big Papi" for a couple of months.

I think it will be a very interesting summer for AL-East, this year.

I would tend to agree. The Yanks are heating up, but both the Yanks and Red Sox both look vulnerable this year. It could be the Rays year to upset them both. In any case, it'll be cool to have a 3 team race if it can materialize.

As for the Yanks, whoever hears the diagnosis on Wang first, PLEASE post it. What a shot in the foot (sorry for the pun) that would be if Wang is out.

I was just saying to my friend at work, here's another reason to dislike interleague play. Am I whining? Hell yeah. So, I might as well continue.

No, American League pitchers are not used to swinging bats and running bases. Therefore, their risk of injury while doing so is much higher than if they did these things in competition every five days, at least.

So now we have the possibility of losing our best pitcher because he was running hard around third on a meaningless play in a game already won against a team like Houston. It really is unfortunate. I say, stop the stupid interleague play until their styles of play are the same.

I originally agreed with you and was blaming interleague play for the injury yesterday while I cursed the NL up and down.

But then my wife said to me "You know, I may not know how to hit, but I'm sure even I can run from 2nd to home and not get hurt. It's running, who doesn't know how to run."

I realized she was right at that time. He was running, besides running like a duck, he should of been able to make it home.

Ok, even worse news. Wang might be out for the season...

Yankees' Chien-Ming Wang likely out for season -- Newsday.com

On an "odd-ball" note, the Yanks signed a switch-PITCHER!!

Yanks have switch pitcher - and it was Dad's idea -- Newsday.com

I'd love to see this kid in action.

No, check back a few pages. He had the "W" taken away for some usual shortcoming. I restored it upon your recommendation. He owes you one.

I would argue with you all night, but I would never argue with your wife!

She's right, of course; these athletes should be in good enough shape to play the entire game of baseball if called upon.

Still, I cannot help feeling aggravated upon hearing this:

How much tougher is it going to be for the Yankees now to make the postseason over some meaningless run scored in an unimportant game. But, that's baseball, and that's life.

Oh, I missed you taken the W away, lol.

LOL @ the wife comment. I can't believe how much she is right about the running comment when you stop and think about it. Even Michael Kay should score from 2nd without getting hurt...

I was confused because I thought they already did last year but I didn't realize that this same kid decided to go back to school. No wonder I had trouble finding him on their minor league roster.

Good. Have him take over Wang's spot in the rotation. [Grumble, snarl.] Stupid interleague play. Stupid Astros. Stupid third base bag. [Grrrrrrrrrrr - the real thing, not mgom's nonsense.]

Or, quoting CommishJoe, *sigh*.

On a more humorous note, I liked this from one of those stories:

Quote:
Kei Igawa, the $46-million bust, is also at Scranton, but it would appear as if every Yankee starter would have to injure his Lisfranc [ligament] before Igawa got another chance.
That brought a chuckle at least.

Hmmm. Bizarre range of emotions in this post. Perhaps I need to make another appointment with my therapist?

You know, it really says a lot about Igawa when the Yanks rather sign Sidney Ponson and promote him to start on Saturday.

Sidney.

Ponson.

How does this man still have a job in baseball?

He's starting Saturday??? Oh my.

What do you guys think about Giambi? He's been cranking the ball lately, and it sounds like he's using all fields again. This story says that one of his HRs was to left center...

Two more home runs for hot Giambi -- Newsday.com

I think he's making the Yankees reconsider picking up his option for next year. Not so long ago, a buyout seemed to be a foregone conclusion.
