From what I heard, it's the same injury as last time, same level of severity, but he praised Jeter for taking six days off to recover from his similar injury. So this time he may be out a bit longer.
Thanks If I had noticed, I would have made my 4,000th post more memorable

Yankees put struggling Hughes on disabled list -- Newsday.com

Darrell Rasner is likely to replace Hughes.

Interesting tactic they are taking with Hughes. I don't believe he's hurt. Instead, they are saving a minor league option and Hughes some "embarrasement". I wouldn't be surprised if he does his "rehab" in Tampa with special pitching instructors.

This will be a good trial run to see if Kennedy can right his ship and if Bruney can step in and stop the bleeding. If Bruney does well, when Hughes is "healthy", I wonder how they'll invent an injury for Kennedy so he can do the same

I thought there had to be two or three medical professionals agreeing that a player is injured before putting them on the DL?

Not sure of the procedure, but I have heard reports before about teams putting someone on the DL with a "suspect" injury.

It's a bit of a risky procedure that, given that on Attachment 5 of the CBA both a Physician and a Club Officer have got to sign that there is a legitimate injury.

I imagine that there are penalties if you abuse the system.

Like Betamit on the DL for "pink eye."

So, our speculation was off and the injury was legitimate. That brings up another matter, however. I just heard that Hughes was injured every year in the minors, then he comes up to the majors, pulls a hamstring then sprains his ankle while rehabilitating, losing 4 months, and now has a mysteriously broken rib. Nobody, not even he, knows how it happened, but obviously it did from something about his physical makeup. This history of injuries makes me more nervous than watching him get shelled as a 21-year-old.

Joe is a geographically-challenged Yankees fan. He does pretty well, even so.
