The best part of that homerun was the look on Lidge's face

GREAT game last night.

D. Lee gets an error, his fourth. I have a bet on with a Cubs fan at work, on who will get the Gold Glove this year, him or Pujols.

Soriano badly misplayed two balls late in the game.

Schumacher gets a walk off. I was at the game last Saturday, when the got the walk off on THAT one, too!

I wonder if it isn't time to start exploring some other options at the back of the bullpen. Izzy being Izzy is one thing. Izzy being washed up is another.

I was listening the Cubs WGN broadcast and listening to Santo when Soriano misplayed those balls was an absolute riot. Especially the first.

Pat Hughes: He dropped the ball!

Ron Santo: OHHHHHH GEEEEEZZZZZZ!!!!!!!! NO! OH GOD!

The first one was a very high popup behind short, that he just flat out didn't hustle for.

The second, in the same inning, was from Yadier Molina. It was a deep fly to the warning track, and Soriano was playing in medium left. He cruised back, and the ball just kept carrying, and finally bounced off the warning track into the stands.

He didn't hustle for either one of them. This could be laziness, or his calf could still be hurt. Either way, it looked real bad on TV. Both of them.

Gotta love that insighful commentary, eh?

A few years ago...must've been 2004...the White Sox radio broadcasts were sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield - so just about every half-inning seem to have a commercial featuring good ol' Mr. Santo. Bleh.

That reminds me, I hope you guys are enjoying John Rooney.

Rooney and Farmer was a "smarter" broadcast than Shannon and Rooney because, well, Mike is just too darned silly to be all that smart. So Rooney just sort of plays a plain straight man to the Moonman's quirky commentary.

Typical Mike, I think he was with Jay Randolph on the local TV station when the Cards and Reds were playing and he says, of Ken Griffey Jr.:

"Hehe, this guy's pretty good. Future All-Star. Hehehe...I mean, uh. Uh. Hehehe. One of those Cooperstown guys..."

I'm waiting for the day when they give the traditional shout out to the affiliate of my wife's hometown, Dixon, IL.

Mike: We'd like to say hi to all the folks listening on WSEY in Dixon, Illinois. Dixon Illinois on the Rock River. *cackle*

Mike: The former president, Ronald Reagan was from Dixon, Illinois. And they have an arch there. Have you ever seen the arch in Dixon, Illinois, eh-John eh-Rooooney?

Rooney: No, Mike, I've never seen it.

Mike: Some of you folks might know we've got, uh, an arch here in St. Louis, too. *cackle*

*crickets*

Man, I never thought I'd hear the day when somebody compared somebody favorably Ed Farmer. Farmer just...man, the dude just rambles. His broadcasts the past two years with Chris Singleton were just painful to listen to because Singleton just let him go. Rooney reined him in terrifically.

I don't care for Farmer, and only tolerated him because he and Rooney seemed to have a "smart" sort of chemistry. As you say, more aptly, Rooney "reined him in." I haven't listed to a Sox game since a few weeks into the 2006 campaign.

And I love Mike Shannon, but he's definitely an acquired taste. He's a well-meaning local boy, been a Cardinal practically all his life, and he fits the team's historic image. I always thought he was a great country-bumpkin foil to the more urbane Jack Buck. And he'd be a great foil to Rooney, but since he's the lead play-by-play man, things aren't as ideal as they could be.

If you get a chance to, the broadcast has been dramatically improved because Chris Singleton has been replaced by a consummate professional in Steve Stone. Stoney is far better at keeping Farmer under control, as he managaes to redirect the broadcast back into baseball territory when Farmer's tangents start to cross the line from amusing to annoying.

Supposedly, it's just a one-year thing, but I wouldn't mind at all if it continued after this season.

Hey, it's not like I posted about how many runners the Astros stranded in games 3 & 4...

Good win for the Cards tonight, especially with Izzy showing signs that he may not be completely finished.

Since they play quite a few day games, I listen to Cubs games at work more than any other team. Santo does that a lot. It's kind of funny, but also annoying.

Strong rumor here in St. Louis is that his hip is bothering him again.

This means nice, 85 mph fastballs with no movement, and poor control.

Time to put McClellan in as the closer. His stuff is FILTHY!

Meh. The hip thing is just Bernie speculating. His fastball has been in the 92-94 range, the problem has been his cutter hasn't been as sharp. I think he'll be alright as long as the velocity stays where it is at.

Awesome base running play by Albert tonight to score the winning run from 2nd on a ground out.

Its good to see the Cards hold on up 6-1 in the 9th to win 6-5. That was scary. And how about Rick's night? Those throws were amazing...

"It's just time for Tony [La Russa, manager], 'Dunc' [pitching coach Dave Duncan] and 'Mo' [general manager John Mozeliak] to figure out what to do," Isringhausen said. "Until I can get back on track or whatever the case might be, I'm sick of embarrassing myself and letting my team down."

"We should have five more wins in the win column, in my mind," Isringhausen said. "We should be out in first place even more. They can't keep sending me out there when I'm pitching the way I'm pitching. I'm going to have to figure out some kind of remedy. I'm sure that remedy will give me some time off from the role and get someone in there who can do a better job right now."
When the player in question knows someone else can do a better job, it's time to do something.

Make a move already, Tony.
