Not a good start for the Pens, Red Wings played a great game and did an excellent job of shutting down Crosby/Malkin/Hossa. Kudos to them.
Let's see how the Pens respond in game two. If they get shut down again I think this will be a short series. On the other hand, if they step up and start playing hockey like they're capable of, it could make for a nice long exciting series.

Yup, I'm not sure the Pens can come back If they get another 4-0 rubbing on Monday, even if they're headed for a two-game home stretch after that. The worst news for them is the fact that for the last two periods, Game 1 looked like a 4-0 beating (or worse). They were on roughly even footing only when they could get just over 6 minutes of power play in the first period vs. the Wings' 1.10 or thereabouts. And some of those early Wings penalties -- at least the one on Holmström which negated a perfectly legit goal -- were just terrible calls.
Anyway, I'm sure the Pens would love to win tomorrow. But even if they don't, a loss doesn't necessarily mean they're out of competition already. However, if they again fail to keep the game even close, there just might be a party in Detroit as early as next weekend. |

Another dominant performace by Detroit. Pens were brutal in the 1st, not registering a SOG until well past the half way mark when they were on a PP.
Back to back SO's by Osgood is a great feat, but let's face it. He's hardly been seriously tested other than a couple of times. If Pitt doesn't win both home games coming up this series is over in 5 Max. Kudos to the Wings and Mike Babcock, they're playing a very well disciplined game and totally dominating the Pens.

Yeah, this is turning out to be a rather boring Finals, not at all what I expected. However, I don't often get to see Detroit play, so that's rather interesting.

Well, that was certainly a better performance by the Pens, although it took them 10 minutes to get going, once they did they were buzzing all around Osgood and had several scoring chances. Sid the Kid leads his team to victory.
They still have to win Game 4 to have any chance, but given last nights performance there's no doubt they can do just that. Great hockey game, hope there's 4 more like it in the series.

They had the chance to put the game away for good in the second period, but they didn't and almost let the Wings come back and force overtime. Sure, the Pens are in a much better position now if compared to 12 hours ago, but the fact remains that in the end, Game 3 could have gone either way. Games 1 and 2 were all Red Wings. They've been the more convincing team by far (which of course counts for exactly nothing if they can't win two more games).

Well, good start for the Pens. 2-0 lead, and they get a bounce when Detroit scores into their own net for the Pens 2nd marker.
Still lots of hockey to play in this game though.

Wow, what a game. Fleury played great in goal for the Pens. For a young kid he's been pretty solid throughout the play-offs. He's at or near the top of the stats for goalies. If the Pens come back and win this thing he has to get serious CS consideration.
Hoping and praying for a game 7 now. Overtime in game 7 even. ![]()

Two man advantage in the 1st, can't do a thing. I think it's about time that Malkin gets relegated to the 4th line and take him off the PP. He's one of the biggest disappointments in a final I've ever seen after playing so well in the opening rounds.
