I could handle that, although my girlfriend would prefer Wings-Pens. Either way, I enjoy the series.

I do NOT want to see the Rangers or Flyers advance any further.

Likewise. I am glad Simon, Bertuzzi and Pronger are out already though

I don't care what Wings fans say, a team that nominates Chris Osgood as its starter needs to be as superb in every other department as the 1998 Red Wings to be taken seriously.

How sweet is this - Hockey-Reference.com - Hockey Statistics and History

I've been wishing for a site like this for a long long time. Well done to all involved.

hockeydb.com wasn't bad at all.

What I'd really lke to see, though, is an equivalent to lahman's database. I'd really like to have access filesto toy around with. A downloadable database in formats I can play around with.

hockeydb was alright other than the dumb popups that even squeeked through with a popup blocker on.

I like the layout of hockeyreference.com a lot better though. Much nicer for searching imo. Plus the layout is comfortable having used it for such a long time now with baseball/football/basketball. Sometimes comfort is a nice thing.

Atrocious call on Richards in the final minute. Good teams overcome that though.

He stuck his leg out! How was that a bad call?

A bad call is the one that led to the Flyers' third goal. He ran up his back in open ice and the other guy gets called for interference? Please.

The contact was made with Richards shoulder. HORRIBLE call in that situation.

The Flyers still should have been able to overcome that and survive for a single freaking minute but I hope we can put all the conspiracy theories about the NHL to bed now. The Habs not only benefited from a 50/50 call on their 2nd goal but they got a gift penalty in a situation where the whistle is rarely blown.

Looked like a knee hit to me - I don't have the replay at hand, though. In any case, if I saw a knee, the ref might've seen the same. A hit to the knee is not a situation where the whistle is rarely blown - a player can rarely get away with it.

I don't think the officiating was bad tonight. Some close calls (the Flyers' final goal, from the behind-the-net camera angle, looked kicked), but nothing horrible.

NHL.com - News
Quote:
ALBANY, N.Y. - Ryan Potulny scored in the fifth overtime, ending the longest game in American Hockey League history as the Philadelphia Phantoms beat the Albany River Rats 3-2 Thursday night.

The marathon game clocked in at 142 minutes, 58 seconds and eclipsed the previous record of 134 minutes, 56 seconds set in Game 2 of the 2003 Calder Cup final between the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Houston Aeros. Michael Ryder scored the winner as the Bulldogs escaped with a 2-1 win in a game where Hamilton netminder Ty Conklin and Houston goaltender Johan Holmqvist combined to make 162 saves.
Quote:
Albany goaltender Michael Leighton made an incredible 98 saves in a losing effort. Leighton's performance made Scott Munroe's exceptional 65-save effort look pedestrian in comparison.

98 saves? I wonder how many pounds he lost during that game.

Yeah, it was actually a shoulder hit. I saw a replay later on SportsCentre that they never showed during the game on RDS. I don't blame the ref, though. From everything but the one angle it did look like a trip.

I'll always be a hockeydb fan, but that hockey-reference sure is easy on the eyes.

I watched it as it happened, it was a knee on knee along with the shoulder. That much is obvious from the many replays available.

It was a good call.
