Funny look at failed great white hopes for basketball

foodcourtlunch.com Examining the Hansbrough Effect

A couple of my faves here include:
Quote:
5. Kevin Love

The jury’s still out, but I’m pretty sure that if I was an NBA GM, “Can lift feet off floor while jumping in upward motion” would be at or near the top of the list of attributes I would look for in draft picks
or this from someone's comments at the bottom:
Quote:
Luke Harangody of Notre Dame read this and whispered, “That’s not gonna happen to me”, while Josh McRoberts patiently waited to take his breakfast order.
or from this Mavs fan:
Quote:
I think you left off the most incredible first round draft selections by the Dallas Mavericks (ALL IN ONE YEAR!!)
Uwe Blab, Detlef Schrempf, and Bill Wennington.
The Whitest (and most Hansbrough - like) draft picks by one team in one year EVER.

A good number of those were never expected to be superstars in the league. But, I get it.

I'm sure Bill Wennington will wear his failure proudly along with 3 NBA Championship rings.

You know Kevin Love is the greatest rebounder on the planet, right?

Actually if he's have been smart he would have gone pro out of high school. He was projected to be a top 15 pick as a high schooler.

I love Coach K and the way he does business, but the man has a very, very bad record with big men. Shav Randolph, Cherokee Parks, McRoberts, Casey Sanders, they all were supposed to be can't miss guys out of HS, and they all regressed steadily in college. I think for some reason after Laettner they stopped letting big men with small ball skills play small ball and tried to force them into being true post up players.

The really good Duke centers (Brand, Williams, Boozer) were big men with true big men skills and except for Sheldon Williams (the jury is still out) they have done well as pros. But these other guys who were really 3s in a 5 body were players miscast for the Duke system.

I agree with everything said here. I am a Duke fan, so I know that neither Randolph or McRoberts lived up to their potential while they were with Duke. Especially Randolph; I will never understand why he came out early.
