I think racism did a lot more to tarnish the game than performance enhancers, but I will admit that the thought of 19th century players injecting themselves with goat hormones and strychnine is a little ****ing weird.

I don't really see how modern players have somehow tarnished the game when guys have been taking sketchy PEDs in baseball and every other sport for over 100 years. That doesn't mean sports shouldn't be doing everything they can to keep competition clean, but this whole "modern athletes are destroying the integrity of competition" bull**** isn't anything but naivety on the part of the general public and a focal point for the media cash cow.

So it is automatic that you become a superstar if you take steroids or HGH or something similar??

Well, everyone except Frank Thomas.

Wait, no, he didn't win in 2000...

Well how much mention has the borderline players who were actually caught been given ? No its only Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod etc. You cant have it both ways. You cant say it helped the superstars performance but didnt do squat for that non superstar. If anything it should have turned average players into great players. Maybe not superstars but at least great player
but have we really seen this or is it only when a player has say 50+hrs that he must be receiving the benefits of steroids.

I think this whole steroids controversy is a waste of time. You cant change the past. Do we even know for sure how much it can help a player?
Theres always been and always will be cheating in baseball. If they ban these players from the hof should they ban people like John McGraw? The guy tried to ban the umpires from a game and put his own players as the umpires. But he never took steroids so he never tried to cheat.

Its useless to continue this witch hunt. We will never know for sure who took what. They have rules and better testing. Why not just move on and enjoy the game. When someone gets caught and they dont do anything aboutit then i can see complaining.
But if MLB had these tests in 2003 shouldnt they be taking most of the blame for letting it continue? Isnt that kinda like instead of taking a drug test for a new job they want your tests results from 7 years ago. Sure the players are still responsible but i just think we need to stop finger pointing and look to the future.

Players have always cheated. What makes this era so different than the past?
They didnt throw any games. They still had to run, hit and catch the ball. Can you tell me exactly how many stats are due to steroids? If not then why cry over spilled milk? Its done. Just move on already.

That's the best article I've seen written about this stuff lately.

I've always found it weird how fans (of any celebrity, not just athletes) are so quick to make personal judgements about people they don't know based on information that's filtered down to them through people with an agenda. I think that's why I've never jumped on the "OMG CHEATER" train. The reason steroids are illegal and are against the rules in baseball are because they're harmful to your health - if they weren't they'd be treated like anything you can buy at GNC (and apparently some of that stuff is banned too). I don't have a personal relationship with any of these guys, so I really don't care if they were jamming needles up each other's asses all day in the clubhouse. What I do know is that I've never seen someone as dialled in mentally as Barry Bonds was for the last 8 years of his career, and I suspect that Ritalin would have been more likely to give him that edge than steroids or HGH were.

Edit: Actually it wouldn't surprise me if a higher-than-normal % of MLB players suddenly started having Ritalin prescriptions at the exact moment amphetamines were banned.
LOL, Ritalin does nothing for you if you don't have fairly severe ADD/ADHD. It is a very mild stimulant that happens to act on a very specific part of the brain that is typically under stimulated in those with ADD. The effect is to reduce hyperactivity/impulsivity and increase attentiveness where these symptoms are present and relatively severe. If those symptoms are not present or are mild there is little change other than what could be gained through any stimulant including caffeine.

Bennies and/or other amphetamines would be far superior to Ritalin as a stimulant or a study aid for students etc.

No, he was always roiding and Cal was his workout partner the whole time they were both in Baltimore. He must have got his cycles right that year.

I'm assuming you've taken it then? My experiences taking it recreationally weren't quite as intense as meth, but certainly moreso than over-the-counter ephedra (when ephedra was legal).

I wouldn't really call it mild. Coffee can be pretty strong too, and you can overdose coffee and Ritalin.
