I agree it was a terrible call made by a guy who has one job in the game and did it wrong. He should be fined, disciplined or whatever. Bucknor's blown call was just as bad. Baseball should do whatever it can to fix the problem. But with Mauer on second, Kubel is walked to keep the double play option. I still think the end results is bases loaded nobody out either way.

You don't walk with no outs and a man on second in the top of an inning. The double play option is something one would pursue with 1 out.

With a lefty coming up and Marte in the game I would have walked him and brought in Robertson. Of course if it was me Marte would have never been in the game in the first place.
Either way you can't change the past. Even if they scored a run I still liked our chances to win with A-Rod, Matsui, and Swish coming up.

I like our chances in a tie than in not being able to bat. Writing it off as oh well is simply ignoring the point. Quite frankly... still getting a hit is defying the odds. I was in the same spot in #163 with the bean ball on the Tigers. I didn't pretend it was irrelevant.

It may not have mattered but it still doesnt change the fact that these calls cant go unpunished. It looks even worse when the Yankees are involved. |

I believe I already said that he should be fined, punished, or whatever. I don't like blown calls on either side. I didn't like Bucknor's blown calls last night, or the ump's blown calls tonight, but why does it matter if it is the Yankees? They didn't blow the call the ump did. They didn't leave 17 men on base, the Twins did.

If you want better umps, to fire or fine the ump go for it, but you can't go back and change it. The oh well is not ignoring the point, but what exactly can you do.

I cringed when Marte was on the playoff roster.

I'm simply opposing your statement
The Twins score a run. The call cost us that run and made us get an extra hit, against the odds.

It's performances like this that make me resent Pavano even more. Where was this for three whole years? Don't tell me injuries and bad luck alone; the best judges as to that were his own teammates. No debate whatsoever.

Jeez...two flicks of the bat and the Yanks go ahead. What a great performance by Pavano. Just two flicks and he's down 1-run.

Congratulations to the Yankees and you fans here!
![]() Even though my Red Sox got out of the picture, I will enjoy watching ALCS very much. (the two best AL teams this year playing against each other)

Pavano was a waste of skin while in pinstripes. What a shame. He pitched brilliantly down the stretch for the Twins and he had a great game last night. Luckily, Pettitte was a little better. It's hard to believe how good Pettitte is at winning big games.
Nice to see A-Rod get rid of those post-season demons. Now, let's just hope they can keep it up against the Angels.
