Almost a week with nothing in here and an excellent series between the Sox and Yankees has happened.
I don't think we can count the Yankees out yet as they have got some formidable batting if they can get them out there (I was just turning in for the night when we were 6-0 down), and Wang aside the rotation looks good, though the bullpen again looks like being one of the thorns in Girardi's side. Saturday aside, I think Burnett might end up being the best value of your FA's this winter. CC and Teix are slow starters but the AL East is not the best place for slow starters.

But I have to wonder, what is wrong with Joe Girardi? For example on Friday night, bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and one strike, he pulled Albaladejo who was breezing through batters and brought in Mo for the four out save. Mo is still a great closer, yes. But Mo is older and coming off surgery so why do something you publicly announced you would not be doing at this time with your closer. Your second guessing before anything happens, and it usually comes back to haunt you. Now, we will never know what happens if Mo just comes in, in the 9th, results could very well be the same. But are there really any good managers out there at managing the pen anymore? Or is it just the guys that went to the Joe Torre school of managing the bullpen that are awful? Joe Girardi does not impress me at all as manager. I've questioned so many of his moves that come back and wind up hurting the Yankees, and in some instances costing them the game. You know after this weekend, the tight rope Girardi was walking on just got a little thinner... |

I hate the Red Sox as much as the Yankees, but I have to admit I like what I'm seeing so far.

I don't know if I agree with thom's assessment of Girardi (yet). The bullpen has been awful, and 20% or more of his starting pitching has been terrible. I don't think any manager is going to look good in that situation, 4-out saves or not. It's early yet. We got a long way to go - 144 games, I think? |

He won't last that long. He's gone at the AS Break if they're not close.

I bet his son would make a great replacement for Jeter.

Interesting - I never thought of him as manager. When you say again, did they consider him for the job in the past? What about Mattingly? Is he too tied up with the bitterness over Torre now?

I hate the Yankees (do I say that enough?), but I think they should try and get Davey Johnson if he'll consider it. They'll probably hire Larry Bowa, IMO.

Yeah, but you seem to love our thread! Hey, as far as I am concerned, you are welcome as long as you don't get too sassy. "Donnie Overrated" is like waving a red cape in front of thomamon, though.

At least I didn't get into Jeter's defense.
