Giants sign marquis grissom

the deal- 2 years, 4.5 million..

goddamn Sabean and his veteran experience bullcrap; all this
time I thought Dusty was the biggest fan of PMLV's over
regular, young players..

This move drives me crazy. Why not spend half this money
to sign Matt Stairs and have him platoon with Toratco ?

I don't know if Grissom is worth that much, but he is pretty productive. He did well in his platoon role last year. He was also great in the outfield. In one of the crucial games against the Giants in the last couple weeks of the season, he robbed Aurilia of a homerun in the top of the 9th to end the game.

As a Dodger fan, it kills me to see one of our guys sign with the Giants, but he's a good guy and I wish him the best (except when he's playing against LA).

I just read this on ESPN and I am very upset. That is way too much money to give to Grissom. I said the same thing last year when they signed Sanders. Why not make a serious run at Vlad or Giles. Grissom is coming off a decent year, but he hasn't been good since 1996 with the Braves. He's hit .270, .221, .244, .267, .271, .262 the last six years. He's coming to Pac Bell Park, which is the worst hitter's park in the league. WHY????? I just don't understand this move and if they don't resign Kent, they better git a high quality hitter or else it's going to be a long year. If Sabean thinks they can win with Bonds and Bonds alone, he is WRONG.

rowleyball,
most of it was because he was platooning for a long time; he got to hit lefties for the most part, which make his stats look a lot
better than they are....
Id gladly send him back to the dodgers; 2.25 mil a yr ofr a platoon guy is a syd thrift move....
forget the batting average; he had an OBp of .320.
I know he slugged .510, but if you think he's going to do that again, I have land on alcatraz Id like to sell you.

On a good note. They signed Ray Durham. If they resign Kent, they can put Durham in the outfield.
