If I am looking to build a team from scratch, my first choice would be a player in the mold of Dunga or Gattuso.

I just cant agree that Iniesta is as good as Ronaldo. He did have a great season but were it not for an incompetent Norwegian, his name would not be on peoples lips.

Ronaldo is special because he is one guy who can individually dominate a match. Were it not for his petulance, he would be rated in the same teir as the worlds greatest.

Other examples of teams thinking they could replace their superstars:

Milwaukee Bucks trading Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Edmonton trading Wayne Gretzky

The Twins trading Rod Carew

Their smaller team sports though, the less players you have on a team the more it impacts when a player leaves specially a star player. What i'm trying to say about Ronaldo is that yes he's a top player but imo not a team player and I don't think it will effect United as much as people think.

Who will be nearly as dangerous taking free kicks? Who can score from 25 yards out and also beat a man and create spectacular goals? Who can draw the defensive attention? It will hurt Man U as a team because. unless they sign Messi, it will free the extra defender from him onto Berbatov/Rooney. Combine this with the loss of the energetic Tevez and aging players like Giggs and Scholes; Man U could be vulnerable next season.

He's about the best at taking free kicks so it's kind of impossible to replace that no matter what, you'll see a different United next season with Rooney more in the middle than this past season. Also from a piece in todays newspapers states that Zidane say's United will probably be a better team next season so who am I to argue with him.

Hopefully more people will turn up for the World Cup in South Africa than they have for the Confederations Cup, the Spain v New Zealand game is being watched by a stadium about a 1/4 full.

Zidane is a Madrid partisan so I take what he has to say with a grain of salt.

Brazil nearly came unstuck against Egypt only winning 4-3 with a last minute penalty, stadium was far from full again and must be a worry for South Africa specially seeing it was the mighty Brazil playing, maybe a rethink on the ticket prices to get more locals in.

No need to worry about the WC. Tickets are already mostly sold out.

Yeah, the idea that somehow Confederations Cup attendance is somehow related to World Cup attendance strikes me as a bit silly. It's like worrying that no one will show up to the Champions League final because attendance at the UEFA Super Cup is low.

Can the US ever beat a European team in something that matters?

1 The lack of crowds was mainly aimed at the Confederations Cup and not the World Cup.

2 The official statement was they had sold 80% of the tickets for the Confederations Cup but stadiums have not been 80% full.

3 Alot of the tickets will have been bought by various outlets ie travel companies and FA's and doesn't mean it's a bum on a seat as of yet.

A dogged win by England playing most of the game with 10 men, had to rely on a Wigan man to give them the lead though

It's tough when the opposite squad is gifted a 1 man advantage

Still, pretty sad way to fall apart in the 2nd half. My faith in the US squad isn't very high
