Abreu never would run into the wall when he was on the Yankees.

Now, there's lots of swearing in my house. For the record, I'm also not a Fuentes fan.

That's a good way to describe it. I've always hated the phantom tag at second. The only way that was legit was if the ump warned him earlier in the game. I'm still almost relieved we didn't win because of that play.

I haven't seen much of Aybar, but he seems "out there" so to speak. Not like the other Angels.

Oh come on. If there was a stat for boneheaded plays the Yankees would lead the league by far.

They threw away so many games and then their huge bats and deep bullpen brought them back despite it...

Geez, c'mon. Open your eyes.

Um, ok. My point was Abreu played in New York and always seemed afraid of the wall when he went back for a fly ball. He made a great effort on that play, and I've never seen that when he played in New York.

I know Aybar hit well this year, and he had some phenomenal defensive plays. However, he also had some bonehead moves and just generally doesn't seem to play smart, tough baseball...at least not the same way I see from the other Angels. He frustrates me.

Fuentes, I just flat out don't trust on the mound.

Because he's playing for something now. Something to believe in...not just a paycheck...*tearing up and lip quivering*

I don't blame you on Fuentes. Of course, my least trusted Yankee is coming in right now. Why Marte is even on the roster is beyond me. I've never seen him get lefties out.

I thought that was a weird sequence of commentator discussion. He obviously didn't touch the bag, not even close. Aybar has had a chip on his shoulder the whole game, of course he's going to be animated.
It was a bad call simply because the same neighborhood call had been given to Aybar and Izturis the whole game, until that critical moment.

Chill out man. You sound like someone who was robbed by the Yankees as a kid and now have bitterness toward them. Take a deep breath and remember this is a game.

Also, please remember that most of the Yankee fans on this board are respectful, life long Yankee fans (myself included). I know that it can be fun to knock the other team for some people, but the way you've been piling it on, I don't think it's fun for even the Yankee haters on this board.

As for the game last night, the Yankees didn't win, the Angels lost. Both teams played sloppy, but the Angels made the worst mistake between the 2. It was still a fun game to watch.

It was a sloppy game, but definitely a fun game to watch. 13 innings in the playoffs, it doesn't get much better than that.

It may be a coincidence, but it seems like a lot of the sloppy play this series came from the guys wearing the earflaps - Aybar, Izturis, and Cano. I know its cold, but come on.

Forget the whole game, what about the last 30 years? I honestly don't know how long this has been in practice, but I do know it's been around ever since I can remember. I also realize many baseball fans aren't even aware of the neighborhood rule so to speak.

I am a Yankee fan and I am very happy we did not win because of that call. It was the worst call so far in the playoffs. It even beats the foul ball in the twins game. That was a mistake. This was intentional for whatever reason.

Players are use to this. This is how they play game after game. Seriously, why do you think he didn't touch the bag? Terrible call.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighborhood_play

Quote:
In baseball, a neighborhood play is a force play where a fielder receiving the ball in attempting to force out a runner at second base, catches and quickly throws the ball to first base in a double play attempt without actually touching second base, or by touching second base well before catching the ball. By every rules code, such a play is not an out, because to record a force out, the fielder with the ball must actually touch a force base before the forced runner arrives. In professional baseball, the umpires frequently call the play as an out, disregarding the strict application of the rule in favor of traditional practice

Generally the "neighborhood play" is given when the shortstop is in a hurry to get the double play turned because of a speedy batter and a baserunner bearing down on him, so the umpire gives him the benefit of the doubt as he flies over the bag. In Aybar's case, though, he had plenty of time and just chose to plant his feet about six inches away from the bag, for no reason that I could tell other than that he simply couldn't be bothered to touch the base. There's no reason at all to give him the call.
