NLCS: Phillies vs Dodgers
Had to start one. i'm not buying that this will be a long series and the winner of the first game should take it in 5. My advantage right now goes to the phillies as I can't take a rotation with randy wolf and vicente padilla seriously.

I thought the Phillies were the best team, at least in the NL, from from Day 1 and I'm sticking with that. Especially with the addition of Cliff Lee. The only thing that might put a kink in that plan is the bullpen. The Dodgers best chance is to get to a 6th and 7th game against a stressed Philly bullpen.
I say Phillies in 5 or 6. I agree in that I don't trust the Dodger rotation (despite the fact that I have Kershaw as a potential keeper in my roto league )

Dodgers in 6. Can't see Manny and Torre missing another WS.

great game both ways. i heard a lot of talk about the dodgers pen all week and in the end it's what cost them the game. you need a good pen sure, but it's such a toss up once the playoffs start, and over analyzed in a lot of ways. Would rather see blanton next game than pedro, but even if they go back to philly with a 1-1 split that's all they should need.
Also the staff of the phillies manages to somehow find guys and raise their pitch speeds by 5-7 mph. Chan Ho coming out throwing 97 mph not only caught me but i think the dodgers way off guard. |

Today was deadline for tax extensions and I got home late totally forgetting that Game 1 was tonight. I was happy to turn the game on in the 8th inning and see the Phils get the win.

on a side note cole hamels is quickly destroying what reputation he had left in philly as a team guy. while he isn't the first pitcher to ever throw a fit over an error by a teammate he may be the only one ever to direct it at two future hall of famers. if it was a guy on a terrible team like greinke doing it at the end of the season etc maybe that would be more understandable but it still wouldn't be right.

I think it was just the competitiveness of Hamels coming through. However, that is now excuse for acting that way, and I am sure it was taken care of in house. But a good win by the Phils. Gotta love Chooch. I am a bit worried about Madson, but hopefully Park can continue to pitch as he did last night.
I don't think it is fair to say that Chase Utley is not a hall of famer. I don't think Rollins will be, but I have to believe that Utley has a good chance especially at a position not known for power, plus he is an above average fielder. |

Rollins won't be a Hall of Famer but Utley has a real chance at it. I don't think he'd be someone they'd slobber over on the first ballot but if he keeps up his level of play for a career he should get in.

Great ball game. I'm pulling for the Dodgers but wont cry too hard if Matt Stairs gets another shot at a ring.
Hamels may have been out of line but I'd rather have that than the robot act that most guys put on. He was really pumped and that was (or should have been) routine.

He's not a hall of famer, not yet. If he continues at this level, then he'll have a great shot at it. But c'mon, way way too early. As for his defense, I don't have an opinion but only reviewed his stats that show both his fielding percentage and range factor to be almost exactly average for the position. Other things may contribute to that though.

You would do best to take the train. Union Station in LA is only about a mile from Dodger Stadium and the cab to and from the stadium is likely to be much less than parking and gas.

As for Utley and Rollins being future HOFers. I think Utley is on track to be a first or second ballot lock for it if you look at his numbers over his career, hits .280-.300 each year with, 30-35 hrs, 100 rbis, lifetime ops of around .90. As for Rollins his chances will be determined on the length of his career and the total numbers he puts up. Bear in mind he's been in the league since he was 21 and is only 30 at this point so if he can play for around another 5 years and put up decent numbers which he is more than capable of doing if he's healthy he'll be a guy that's get in as well, especially if they win another title this year. |

on a side note from this, and I'm not saying this from a die hard fan's perspective, but trying to from a neutral standpoint, manuel may well be the best manager in baseball over the past few years. The guy in hindsight always seems to make the right call, and I guess any guy that sticks with lidge throwing like he was all season with a 7 plus era and then have it pay off for him in the playoffs is pretty damn crazy or impressive.

Agree on Rollins but Utley would have to fall off the face of the earth to not make the HOF. Utley is a GREAT 2B. |

Utley, ugh.
What is wrong with his throwing this series?
