The McCourts Divorcing and the Dodgers up for Grabs

Separated McCourts both claim ownership of the Dodgers -- latimes.com

This should be an interesting and juicy story to follow. I wonder if it will impact how the Dodgers prepare for 2010?

I think the Dodgers' ability to compete in the NL West is going to start plummeting. That's what made losing this year in the NLCS especially tough.

The Dodgers do have some excellent young players. They should be fine in that weak division. It would probably be better for the team if the McCourts were forced to sell.

I don't think the NL West is as weak as people think it is. The Rockies won the wildcard this year. The Giants would have if they had a big bat to protect Sandoval. The D'Backs got hurt by injuries this year and will definitely be better next year when Webb is back. The Padres stink, but some of their new young talent looks promising.

In order for the Dodgers to compete, they're going to have to improve their starting rotation, get rid of Manny, and strengthen their infield.Blake and Furcal were automatic outs.TheGiants are coming on strong,I really think if they improve their lineup at all, they'll overtake that division. The Rockies to me look about as good as they're going to get.The Padres and D'Backs both stink.

The Dodgers definitely need a #1 pitcher. Lackey is a free agent, but I'm kinda iffy on him. Halladay would be awesome, but who would the Jays want? Although he hit a wall in game 1 of the NLCS, Kershaw keeps getting better and better. Wolf was solid for us and I wouldn't mind bringing him back as a #4 or 5 guy. An ace would go great with Kershaw/Billingsley/Wolf/Kuroda supporting.

Manny has control over 2010 and given his suspension and struggles afterward, he isn't going anywhere.

Blake was solid all season, but he got hurt mid-September and never looked comfortable at the plate the rest of the year. However, he's only getting older.

I don't know what the deal is with Furcal. Every time he starts getting hot (see NLDS) he thinks he's McGwire and swings for the fences and hits .110. We definitely could use a better shortstop offensively, but when Furcal and O-Dog were up the middle it was an amazing defensive combination.

It's easy to say to upgrade parts, but there aren't many better parts available. Also, I'm positive Frank and Jaime's messy divorce is going to cripple the team in some way. If Ethier gets traded, I stop following the Dodgers.
