Then again, the Sox haven't gone to arbitration with anybody since, what, 2001? If the Sox hold true to form, they'll reach a 1-year deal with Jenks before the 19th, probably not too far off from the $5.6m he made this year.
so who else are we waiting on to sign?

Let's see, the Sox already let Carrasco go and came to terms with Teahen, so that leaves Jenks, Quentin, Danks and Pena.

sox resign Catcher Ramon Castro for what looks like 1 year and the 2nd year option.
Thoughts?
What's this have to do with the AJ heir apparent Tyler Flowerpot?

Flours will spend the year down in AAA, where he belongs - his call-up last year convinced me that he's just not ready to hit major-league pitching, and would be best served by facing live pitching every day than riding the bench.

the score mentioned a while back using him to backup pk like how josh fields did last year for a bit. that a bad idea too? ozzie rotates pretty well.

Personally, I think that would be a poor idea. The Sox already have Kotsay who can take care of that, and they may even be able to use Andruw Jones as an emergency first baseman if it came down to it - heck, he played 8 games at first last year, so it wouldn't even be his first time doing it.

Sure, it was a small sample size, but Flowers struck out in half of his at-bats during his call-up. I just don't think the guy's quite ready to really face major-league pitching yet.

True, but Beckham was brought up because Fields sucks and wasn't performing. The chances of Pierzynski playing poorly enough to get benched are pretty slim.

Oh, and FWIW, the Sox agreed to terms with Jenks (1 year, $7.5m) and Quentin (1 year, $3.2 m). Danks & Pena have filed, but haven't yet reached terms.

you know, i missed that name when i browsed it. I'm hoping coop can turn him around and keep him out of the bad inning or two like he was able to do with javy vasquez a few years back.

The Sox declined to offer him arbitration, so there won't be any picks coming. The Sox didn't offer arbitration to any of the pending FAs they had, IIRC.

So, Big Hurt retired (see other thread), but I think the biggest news is the White Sox alleged interest in and play for Johnny Damon.

I'm not sure how I feel about this move.

I'm not sure what he brings to the table at this stage of his career.

I'm sure he brings more than Kotsay and Andruw Jones. Possibly combined.

That being said, this strikes me as a typical Sox "token" offer, so that they can later say how they tried to go after a big-name free agent, but that it didn't work out.

Kotsay has an edge in versitility only. No argument from me on Jones
