There's loss #14 in a row.

Just lost with 15 seconds left in OT after coming back from a 3-0 deficit.

Oh, and the winning scorer (Kyle Okposo of the Islanders) has swine flu. A new low has been reached - beaten by swine flu.

Go Maple Leafs go! You're only three points out of last place in the Eastern Conference! A couple of lousy performances and you just might take the bottom spot!

I love the Leafs' incompetence.

18 games in with 8 points to show for it.

This warms my heart - thanks for the memories Karmanos!

It's funny I asked a co-worker of mine that hailed from Ireland about why he follows the Leafs hockey wise when they've sucked so much ass for four decades (almost five), and seem to have no real interest to do anything about it (hey they're making money for their masters, why try?). HIs response was that he wasn't' going to stay up till 3am to do the Western teams, and it was the only one to watch on HNIC (well outside of Montreal, but apparently that wasn't' an option).

I do love his one statement that they have to win someday. Poor him. So hopeful in the face of the abyss.

Well after they [s]were given[/s] won the Cup, they should have enough fans to last a few years of this right? Right?

Damn you, Carolina! How dare you keep the Leafs out of their rightful last place spot!

Funny you should mention making money, because Forbes just released their NHL team valuations for the 2008-09 season.

No surprises here, the Leafs take top spot with $168 million in revenue, some $29 million ahead of the second-place Rangers. With only $89.1 million in operating expenses, the Leafs had the NHL's highest net operating income, $78.9 million. That's nearly 47% of total revenue in profit. The next nearest club is Montreal, which had an operating income of $31.3 million on revenues of $130 million.

According to the Forbes report, nearly half the league's clubs lost money (14 of the 30 teams). The closest to profitability was Calgary with a net income of $-0.8 million, while the money pits were Florida ($-13.6 million) and Phoenix ($-18.5 million).

Carolina's operating income last season was estimated at $-4.6 million on revenues of $82 million.

NHL uses a draft lottery, finishing last overall does not guarantee the 1st overall pick.

Guarenteed top five, with the best chance to get a #1 is nothing ot sneeze at either.

Hell yeah! I told you guys the Leafs could get back to last place!

They blow a 3-0 lead, give up the tying goal with three seconds left in the game, and go on to lose in the shootout. Outstanding!

To boot, Carolina won in a shootout. Looks like maybe they've bottomed out. At least they've won a couple games now.

Winning against the Leafs isn't something that should be used as a baramoter.

Yeah now that you mention it, I guess beating the worst team and the third worst team in the NHL isn't something to hang your hat on.

But it is better than being winless for 14 straight games, which is where we were at this point last week.

I can't tell you how moving it is to see the Leafs finally regain their rightful last-place spot... *wipes tear from eye*

They'll have the best chance to get a first pick.....and select another Wendal Clark....if I actually remembered things correctly.

You know, if that whole Phil Kessel trade never happened.

Carolina has 4 wins, 3 via the shootout. That's nothing to be impressed over. They're fortunate to have Jussi Jokinen, the NHL career leader in shootout goals, on their team. Gets paid millions to take a breakaway once every few games.

Absolutely. Having the second lowest point total in the league is nothing to brag about.
