NBA Thread 2011-2012
I may be the only contributer to this thread. But I will give it a shot.
I became a hardcore fan only about 2 seasons ago but the sport has quickly became my #2 favorite sport. For some reason I am really excited about this upcoming season. Maybe because it was saved from disaster at the last minute. Anyways, this should be a fast and furious offseason. The list of free agents is small and not very deep but a few good pieces can be had. Some decent swingmen and second tier centers. On the trade docket there is already the huge news that Chris Paul may be headed to the Lakers. It looked like a sure thing a few hours ago but seems to be put on hold now. That would have to be the biggest trade of the offseason Does anyone have any season predictions? I reserve the right to change mine up until Dec 25th. But right now I would say Thunder-Heat in the finals with the Heat coming out on top. I think a 66 game schedule is perfect for them and they are going to tear up teams this year. But things could rapidly change depending on trades and free agency. And is Lamar Odom is traded away from LA, what is the over under on the divorce? I give it 45 days. |

They are not a playoff team even with him in the lineup. If I was ultra rich I would buy the Hornets. Owning a team in New Orleans would be fun. |

That is good news. Kinda funny how in real life the Hornets are trying to trade Paul but in my 2K11 uni he is still with them in 2016! By the way, your guy signed with the Hornets during the 2016 offseason.

![]() Basketball is far from my favorite sport, but I still catch a game here and there. It's way more fun to play than to watch. Also, why was the deal nixed? I know the owners made a fuss about competitive balance, but can Stern really just say no like that? (obviously he can, but what about an appeal process?) From my limited basketball knowledge, the trade seemed fine with me. |

I heard a quote from Paul saying that his heart is in New Orleans, but I guess if he's intending to leave at the end of this season than his bank account is located somewhere else.

I've lost a ton of interest in basketball over the last 12 yrs ( I was way too spoiled by MJ & 6 rings) NBA is now my 4th favorite sport, but i will still watch Da Bulls 25-50 games and cheer for them in the playoffs but I dont see then even getting to the Conf Finals right now. I heard Chandler went to NY, that just made them the 2nd best team in the East, BOS 3rd. Bulls should be 4th depending on what moves ATL has done. I am hoping to see anyone other then Fakers and Cheat in the finals.

He can still live in New Orleans in the off season and after retirement if his heart is in New Orleans.

Time for the NBA to get rid of this stupid salary cap they claim helps small market teams. Im not sure how letting teams load up on star players at a discounted price is helping the league.
Fair market value for a LBJ and Dwayne Wade is 30+m per year. There is no way the Heat can afford to take on both of them, let alone a 3rd minor star in Bosh with a cap in place. The only people it helps is the idiot owners that cant budget their bank account. These star players just sit there and play for half their market value throughout their career. Just a complete crap system Stern has in place. |

I think this year I'm cheering for the Timberwolves. They're local, the Super Sonics don't exist, and Kevin Love is a treat to watch.

Call me when the playoffs start.
The NBA season is a chore and boring to watch. Why doesn't the NBA create in season series like MLB?

I just don't enjoy the NBA anymore. I watched alot in the 80s and 90s but today's game just does not have that same level of excitement like it once did. The players are all just a bunch of cliches and in general the game is just boring. Oh boy someone dunked, wow.
![]() I do LOVE how the NBA labor dispute has hurt the game's image and now their commissioner is vetoing trades which is great because again that hurts the league. Maybe the NBA will go the way of the NHL and just basically disappear. That would leave more time for the NFL and MLB!!!! |

The lack of a salary cap wouldn't matter that much in the NFL since it has massive national revenues that go equally to every club as well as substantive revenue sharing. The NHL and NBA are in a different boat since their national revenues are much smaller and both leagues have little in the way of revenue sharing.
