2014-15 NHL Season

Didn't see anything like this so far...

Season's about to start and I am incredibly excited. I mean, my Leafs can't lose 8 straight at the end of the year again, right? Right???

Thoughts/predictions?

I think you should be more concerned about how many they win at the start of this season.

I'm not into hockey yet. Once baseball ends I take a look. I can state with some certainty that the Leafs will not win the Stanley Cup. I'm going out on a limb of course.

They should make the Playoffs but maybe not with the current coach.

(As a Blue Jays fan also) we can commiserate about Toronto's inability to finish. The Leafs won't win the Cup, but it's getting better. Nylander hopefully will see some time, Kessel will get more consistent...

This is a playoff team if it stays healthy and a clear #1 goalie emerges.

Hockey is still one of those sports that I should like, but can't get into.

I might force myself to follow the Wild this year and see how it goes.

Nylander is going back to Sweden and he should stay there this year. He has a laundry list of things to work on and this is better done outside the "looking glass". As for Kessel his inconsistency is a product of the Leafs lack of depth offensively. Opposing teams can sell out to neutralize him because there are no consequences.

I've been saying for a couple of years now that the Leafs will never win another Stanley Cup as long as MLSE owns the club. (I also predicted the Leafs would not make the playoffs in the 2013-14 season. The only reason they made it in the year prior was because of the lockout-shortened season.)

Pity about Nylander. Hadn't read about that, thanks for the info.

Kessel-wise if he does get more consistent that means it's less likely that when opposing teams sell out to stop him he'll curl up in a shell. If he gets consistency then he can set up JVR or maybe Bozak while the defense is focused on Kessel. Agreed though, the Leafs' depth is unenviable.

I have been looking forward to tomorrow for months. Hopefully the Wings can avoid the slew of injuries they faced last season. Datsyuk beginning the season on the shelf is not a great start.

I always liked the Wings. Injuries will be big this year. One superstar goes down and I think there are maybe two teams who can survive that (and one of them isn't the Leafs or the Wings).

Any tips on how to make this happen? I think I'm one of 4 people in MN who don't follow. I love soccer, so there's gotta be something to suck me in that I'm missing.

I'd say go to a few games, look for things you like. Do the same with watching a bit on TV. If you start liking that, increase and maybe read a bit about the players and team history and whatnot.

A hockey game as good as FM?
I was sucked in by NHL '93 on Sega.

I've pretty much given up on hockey thanks to the Blues choking in the playoffs every single year. They seem bound and determined never to win a Stanley Cup in my lifetime...and I'm only 40. At least I still have the Cardinals and Colts.

Depends on your definition of "survive". The Wings lost both Datsyuk and Zetterberg for extended periods of time last season and still made the playoffs.

Looks like the Maple Laffs are already in late season form.

I'm hoping the Isles will somehow be able to reach the playoffs.

I think it's very possible with the additions of Leddy/Boychuk.

The Blues will be one of the top teams then get bounced by the worst wild card teams in the first round of the playoffs. Everyone will say "this team is young...they'll be back next year ready to go" just like the last three - four years.

My thoughts, even as a Blues fan is eventually young turns to old and eventually they have to do something in the playoffs or all these "young" high talent guys are going to be old nobodies.

My guys won their first game in a shootout last night!

Didn't look too good the first 40, but came around in the third. Kaner put it into the back o' the net FTW.
