Just some football thoughts.......
Looking @ the Bills & Jets uniforms last night was like watching an early 80's video football game............
.....Speaking of which, I heard a lot of talk about Ryan's choice of captain last night. Some thought Geno Smith should have been the Jets' choice. I would have loved to see Geno walk out at the coin toss w/a check. Then punch Enemkpali. Maybe then he'd get some respect in the locker room..... .....Oklahoma State is the new entry into the playoff sweepstakes. I wish more people had seen the game they had w/Texas. That game was every bit a travesty as the Duke vs Miami contest. A lot of talk has been about bad calls. But that one was worst. Because it wasn't bad officiating. It was biased officiating. Late in that game, a DT for the 'Horns was double teamed, yet he was called for holding. Charlie Strong rightly was irate & yelled at the official. Then as he is walking away still fuming, the zebra follows Strong, bumps into him, then flags Strong for unsportsmanlike conduct. Adding on to the defensive holding. It sets up OSU's tying fg, which led to a fumble by the Texas punter that sets up OSU's winning FG. That sequence of events was just the last of a barrage of questionable at best flags Texas suffered through....... .....I hate the Panthers are getting all this love now. It takes away their edge. Whenever they won, people were more about the team they beat. "Jameis looks brutal as a rookie QB starter." "Texans QB situation is a mess." "Is this the end of the Peyton/Brees era?" "What's wrong w/the Seahawks?" "What's wrong with the Eagles?" "What's wrong with Luck?" Now people are taking notice. They are in prime position to win the division & home field advantage. I don't know if that is a good thing........... ......You'll never hear me debate the NCAA playoff rankings from week to week. It is the most massive trolling event in the history of sports. The committee showed last year that the previous rankings mean nothing. They take into account the entire season as a whole right into the final week. So just because a school is #1 this week doesn't mean they won't be #4 next week even if they win. So getting hyper about it is pointless..... .....I will say this, however.......Any system where a team can go unbeaten and not have an opportunity to play for a title is not a system to decide a true champion. That's why I personally maintain there has never been a true national champion in college football. Schools, organizations, etc can proclaim one all they want. When all schools in the division have a realistic chance to win the trophy, then we will have a real college football champion....... .....Unbeatens Cincy, Pats & Carolina have played a total of 5 teams w/records above .500. The Bengals beat 5-4 Pittsburgh. The Patriots beat 5-4 Pitt & Buffalo to start the year & also won over the 5-4 Jets. Panthers just got their 1st w/a victory over the 6-2 Packers. Bengals have the toughest road to go. They visit Arizona & Denver, and host Pittsburgh & the Rams. Patriots sched gets tougher now. In consecutive weeks they play the Giants, Bills, Broncos & Eagles, then the Jets in week 16. Panthers have 2 games vs the Falcons sandwiched around a visit to the Giants........ .....Interesting how the Redskins are still bad, yet Robert Griffin III isn't playing. So if anyone is living in the DC area, who does the media have to blame now? It's funny how quiet things are in Washington and only one change was made. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....................... ..........Bears have yet to win a conference game. They are 3-0 vs the AFC........ ........Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson has yet to win an ACC game in which the Deacons have scored a TD. He is 2-1 in games where they have failed to reach the end zone............ ......For a child of the 70's, Rams vs Vikings, Steelers vs Raiders, Vikings vs Raiders just sounds like can't miss football. Despite the 40 years that have passed. If I could just get a Cowboys vs Steelers matchup........... Last edited by Cobra Mgr; 11-13-2015 at 10:11 AM. |

It was just Rex being Rex. The biggest edge the NFL has over any other pro league in America is rivalry. In every division, you find every team hates the other 3. It keeps you interested even if your team sucks. Many Cowboy fans remember 1989 fondly despite the 1-15 record partly because the "1" was a win vs the Redskins that ended up keeping Washington out of the playoffs.

S'funny, because that's how I felt about him even though I was previously outraged by what that oaf did to Geno Smith and how the Bills seemed to "reward" him for it. Ryan is a showman and a leader who will not scruple to pull antics and will do anything to inspire his team. You can't fault him for that even if it does look like rewarding an oaf for bad behavior.

Giants vs. Patriots: Brady marches his team down the field and scores on the opening drive, of course. Let the Pats win these regular season meetings. The Giants win the games that count.

Coughlin & the Giants have lost 2 games this year because they have no clue how to manage the clock at the end of the game.

Man, it's games like that which make the NFL hard to watch for a Brit.
To me, the Giants scored a touchdown and then intercepted a pass. But apparently because it's against New England neither counts. ¬_¬ I do (mostly) understand the rules and am mostly just whining because the Patriots won another game they didn't deserve to, but still... The touchdown especially annoys me. If a white-painted blade of grass touches the ball it's a TD, but if you catch a ball in the end zone you need to hold onto it for an arbitrary unit of time for it to count. Stupid bloody rules. Wondering if Thursday, the NFL will open the broadcast of the Titans v. Jaguars game with an apology..............
People raggin' on Cam Newton's celebrations are ignoring 2 things. One, he is just as enthusiastic when his teammates score. It's not about him. It's about the team. Witness the Ted Ginn PR for a TD that was called back for a penalty. Who was that guy from the Panther bench running to cheer him in the end zone? Who is the guy egging his teammates to give a kid in the stands the ball after a score? Who was the guy pointing out to anyone who noticed that Funchess had just scored his first career TD? The 2nd thing is that opponents have often mocked Newton's Superman pose after sacking him or intercepting him. You've never heard Cam complain, whine or get in someone's face about it. The guy takes it as well as he gives it. If you don't want the guy posing, keep him out of the end zone........ The SEC is the Paris Hilton of football. They are the best, simply because they are known for being the best. One loss Bama being a shoe in for the playoffs in the minds of commentators irks me. Why are they a shoe-in? How good is that LSU win looking now? How bad is that Ole Miss loss looking now? The SEC this season is a cluster of mediocre teams. Florida is the clear number 2 in the SEC right now. Yet they've beaten Vandy, Kentucky & ECU by a combined total of 14 points. And neither team is a guarantee to be bowl eligible w/sub .500 records. Arkansas, losers to TxT & Toledo, will finish 2nd in the exalted SEC west if they win out vs Miss St & Mizzo. In the past, winning the SEC with just one loss was the equivalent of going unbeaten in any other power conference. But not this year.......... Speaking of the Red Raiders, they currently have scored the most points & given up the most points in the nation. Has that ever happened before?............ |

Are you talking about this? Because if so, and this is coming from an older guy who speaks up for sportsmanship around here: Big deal. I've seen worse.
I mean if he was standing over an opponent doing that, especially if the guy was hurt, then no, but this is just more of the usual nonsense you see on an NFL field these days. Titans don't like it? Then here is the best response (choose one or, even better, do both):

If you don't want to see the celebrations or the bat flips or the fist pumps, keep them out of the end zone, don't give up the gopher ball that gets crushed, and don't strike out. Then none of those will ever happen.

Exactly! Or, come back and whup their butts and later, when talking to the media, make it known that so-and-so's stupid celebration inspired the extra effort to beat him. THAT will discourage the nonsense, for sure. If the dopey dancer doesn't figure it out, his coaches and teammates will gladly assist him.

There was probably a group of human beings that sat around a table at some point and all agreed that this was a good idea. That really blows my mind.
