Ah....I was hoping for another bowl game

Cubs want to host a bowl game in Wrigley....

Maybe Wrigley deserves a bowl game and it could be successful. The Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium is a big deal, locally.

However, another new bowl game? According to a Wikipedia article, currently 80 college football teams go to bowl games. That's 40 bowl games.

"As a result, the NCAA has steadily reduced the criteria for bowl eligibility, allowing teams with a non-winning (6–6) record in 2010, further reducing requirements to allow teams with outright losing records (5-7) to be invited since 2012."

It's like so many other things these days. Something is good, something is fun, something is profitable. More of it should mean more goodness, fun, and profit. And more, and more, and more. We cannot get enough in our gluttony for a good time and the pursuit of bucks.

So now you have so many bowl games that the important ones are obscured to some extent and the goodness and fun are diluted to the point of boredom. I mean, The TaxSlayer Bowl? The Outback Bowl? The Dollar General Bowl? The Foster Farms Bowl? The Belk Bowl? The Quick Lane Bowl? Do they all make money?

So they may indeed get the NCAA to create yet another bowl game to be played in Wrigley Field but just don't expect many people outside of Chicago to care, just like most people outside of New York never heard of and don't care about the Pinstripe Bowl.
