Gottfried Gonna Getfired

I'm not quick to place blame on the coach for a team's bad season. But the NCSt disaster is purely on Gottfried. This team doesn't play smart, doesn't play hard & doesn't play together. That is the coach's responsibility. Sometimes it's the talent. Sometimes it's the injuries. Sometimes it's the breaks. Not this time.

Last night, State waited almost 15 secs per possession to even call a play. It's easier to play D against a team for 10 secs instead of 25-30. The offense acts like Abu isn't on the team. Driving the lane on them is like riding a Wyoming interstate @ 2am.

Two telling stats: UNC 18 def rebs, NCSt 16 def rebs. U should never be on the minus side on the boards when the other team is shooting. NEVER. You should consider it a poor effort if you allow the off to recover 40% of their misses. Nate Britt, @ 5'11", had 4 def rebs. State's 4 big men had 3 COMBINED. Rebounding, above all other stats IMO, shows how hard you are playing. How much you want it.


Next stat: UNC scored 60 in the paint. Yet went to the foul line only 8 times. What does that tell you? Carolina wasn't just getting easy baskets, but there was no one there to even make contact. Or maybe they were too willing to give up on the play. Or maybe, the refs had mercy on them. Either way, it's showing the lack of effort this team plays with on defense.


What this all shows is that Gottfried has to go. I'd love to see him stay, being a Heels fan. But if i was a State fan, I would rent the U-haul myself to get him out. Pre-game, the Pack players heard all the talk about how they quit, how they laid down, and how their coach's job was in jeopardy. They are playing their biggest rival, who gave them their biggest whuppin' since before the Depression. And THIS is how you respond? With that kind of lackadaisical effort? Either they don't care about the coach, or the coach can't inspire them. Either reason is enough for him to be gone.
