It's very simple. The Illini need the next Bill Self.

I understand they are looking at a list that includes Crean, Xavier's Thad Matta, Mike Montgomery from Stanford, Ernie Kent from Oregon and Bruce Weber from SIU...

You know, I'd never thought about it before but Tim Floyd would fit in great at Indiana.

He'd be perfect, Kezzek. He has no ties to the Knight regime, which in my estimation is mostly a good thing. And that's not anything against Coach Knight - I'll go to my grave a Bob Knight apologist - it's just time we moved on.

Mike Montgomery wouldn't go from Stanford to Illinois... at least I don't think he would, it's a bit of a step down. Bruce Weber obviously deserves a look at the job, but I hope that for the MVC's sake, he pulls an Altman and sticks around for a while.

That's a shame. Floyd was a great college coach and deserves to get a good job somewhere. He really shouldn't have left Iowa State, as he had a nice thing going there, but I guess the allure of the pros was too tempting to pass up.
