Dominik Hasek...

I was excited when he announced his return. I'm probably the biggest mark for him and do think in his prime, he was the best goalie ever to play.

My God though, he couldn't stop a puck the size of a Mack truck now. Very disappointing to see your hero play so poorly.

Hope the Red Wings are able to score 4+ goals a night, they're gonna need to if they want to win any games with Hasek in goal.

Hasek only works when he wants to work...come crunch time he'll probably be fine.

the Wings are going to struggle out of the box this year. Hasek will play poorly, the Wings will not have a great record, and the Dominator will retire (again) by Christmas.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

If that happens, they're screwed, I'd love it

I disagree though, Dom will be fine, he's just working out the rust right now.

Of course, if they had Aebischer, we wouldn't even be having this conversation

1. The Red Wings signed Curtis Joseph, the most over rated goaltender in the NHL, to an astronomical contract. Big mistake.

2. The Red Wings sign Dominik Hasek, a washed up guy about to retire.

3. The Red Wings try to get rid of Joseph. Mistake.

Now that's what I hate. Most teams making such mistakes would be totally screwed. However, in a few years, when Hasek retires and they have no one to play that position, the Red Wings will be able to get another goaltender in free agency. Guuuh.

Actually, you're right LLN. And that surprises me because Detriot management (in recent history) hasn't made many mistakes.

I'll never get why they got Haskek back. I just don't think he'll be the same goaltender he was.

I like Cujo - always have, always will. But, $8,000,000 was a CRAZY amount of money.

I like Marquis Grissom. Doesn't make him an outstanding ballplayer though.

I like Cujo because he's an outstanding goalie.

Dont forget that if all else fails, the Wings have a third stringer that could probably start on most NHL teams.

Ive always been a fan of Cujo as well. Hasek is going down tonight, the Kings even without Allison, Deadmarsh and A Miller will steam roll the Wings

The Red Wings didn't really have a choice. It was Hasek who decided to come back because of the option in his contract.

What were the Wings supposed to do? Say no and pay him 9M to sit at home? He has a no trade clause so they can't trade him, so they are basically stuck.

Even with Legacy in net the Wings would be one of the top teams in the league.

Sure they had a choice.

A - Hasek comes back and plays for Detroit, it was their option to pick up or decline, Hasek let them know he was playing this year, then it was up to Holland.

B - Hasek comes back to the NHL as a free agent since Det declines his option.

Hasek decided to come back, the Wings had to decide whether or not to accept the option. If they said no, they didn't have to pay him a dime, but they risked a competitor like the Av's signing him to take over from Roy.

Joseph has a no trade too. Basically, they have the choice of a top notch goalie or an above average goalie who's never won anything, anywhere, anytime.

They made the right call imo. Now, it remains to be seen how much $ they have to pick up to move Cujo to Carolina or somewhere out East.

oops, my mistake. I thought I had read somewhere that in this instance it was a player's option, but I was wrong that is not the case with Hasek.
