Barry Bonds Part 4,723

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know this is very covered territory, but do you peeps realize that the guy has a ****ING .612 OBP!?!?!?!??!?!? Seriously, all you steroid conspiracy theorists should still be able to respect that. OBP is the most important stat for an offensive player and the guy is putting up unbelievable, record shattering stats so far. Hell, he has 101 walks and WE ARE NOT EVEN IN JULY YET. Right now, as of this writing, Bonds' season is even better than his HR record breaking season of 2001 and even better than his spectacular 2002 follow-up. Oh yeah, in case I didn't mention it yet, Barry Bonds has a ****ING .612 OBP!!!!!!

If he keeps it up I will push him ahead of Ruth in my rankings.

OBP is not the most important stat. Among simple stats, OPS is more important.

Of course, Bonds' also GREAT in OPS.

Yeah, I'll take a 1.400 simple OPS. Calculate it properly (1.5*OBP) and he is off the freaking charts.

Yeah, talent has nothing to do with it whatsoever!

A 1.400 OPS is already enough for best single season record in league history.

OPS:
1. Barry Bonds 1.3807 2002 L
2. Babe Ruth+ 1.3791 1920 L
3. Barry Bonds 1.3785 2001 L
4. Babe Ruth+ 1.3586 1921 L
5. Babe Ruth+ 1.3089 1923 L

OPS+:
1. Barry Bonds 275 2002 L
2. Barry Bonds 262 2001 L
3. Babe Ruth+ 255 1920 L
4. Fred Dunlap 250 1884 R
5. Babe Ruth+ 239 1921 L
Babe Ruth+ 239 1923 L

Well, if you believe what the scouts said and what the sports writers wrote, it's more like the steroid-pumped pitchers got some huge drop in velocity after the tightened drug test. That must be the reason why even less pitchers are pitching to Bonds this year.

Nothing, I was being a smart ass.

Look, Bonds may or may not have used steroids. There is no way for either of us to know for sure. If he gets convicted of buying them or possessing them, I will discount his stats. Until that day, I rate him based on his stats. Based on his stats, he is, at worst, the fourth best player in baseball history.

Why?

Because you accuse him of using steroids based on nothing but idle speculation?

That may be enough for some people, but not for me.
