Most Un-Beatable baseball record

I don't know about that one. You get a guy who can throw with both hands (I know there was a guy in the old days who could, I just can't remember his name) and all he has to do is throw 340 innings with each arm. Put him in a three man rotation and don't baby him and that record would fall by the wayside. As it is now though I think some of the pitchers on Dusty's staff have a chance of breaking that record this year with only one arm.

I still think DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak is untouchable. When one considers that the next nearest mark is 44 games, which is less than 80% of DiMaggio's mark, it's even more remarkable. Looking at it the other way, his 56-game mark is 1.27 times greater than the second-place figure. That is a heck of an advantage.

I just can't see this record ever being broken...

The most unbreakable record that I see right now is Ryan's 5714. When is the next time we will see a pitcher that pitches enough innings to have that many strikeouts.

I really think there are a lot of them....many of them belong to Cy Young (career wins, career losses, career IP, career CG, etc.). Even when compared to pitchers of his era, he is still about 100 wins, 1300 IP, and 100 CG above everyone else. Ryan's Ks, Walter Johnson's career shutouts(110), and Pete Alexander's single season shut-outs(16) are the other big pitching ones.

As far as batting records, career and single-season triples will be pretty untouchable. Rose's hits, AB, and games played will be tough for anyone to reach. Also, Henderson's season and career SB records will be very tough, unless the game changes a lot down the road. Then, as others have mentioned, Ripken's consecutive game streak and DiMaggio's hit streak.

As far as the most untouchable, I would have to say Cy Young's Wins, IP, and CG.....no one in history has even come close to any of those.....Nolan Ryan would have needed to pitch at least 10 more years to reach the IP of Young!!! Impossible!

Cy Young's Win record won't be touched, that's not to say that some of those other ones will be broken but this one is just amazing.

When asked this question in the past, I always answer Rickey Henderson 130 SB's in a season. The only way baseball has been able to stay popular in this world of fast paced sports is through the long ball. Dominating the game, literally, from the base paths is a forgotten art.

Cy Young, loss's.

I think his wins are almost un-breakable, but if I had to pick just one, Id pick his loss's. I think a guy like Ryan on good teams would have had a chance at his wins(I realize he was 200 wins shy, I said may have had a shot), but nobody can lose that much and keep a job for long enough.

Another one is Gossages IP by a RP in a year (is it 208?), since its pretty hard for a RP to get up past 110 (hell thats nearly impossible). Of course, that may not even be the record (I just think it is)

You guys are probably right about Cy Young and his W/L totals, but every time I see a chart listing career strikeout leaders, and see Nolan Ryan with 5714 ( or whatever ), while number two is at 4362 ( or whatever ), I shake my head at the sheer implausibility of that achievement. If I got results like that from OOTP I would be screaming in disgust at the unrealistic stat production.

I don't understand why people think that a league leader being way above the #2 leader is so unrealistic. I've noticed that a lot lately. (people commenting that its not good to have a jump in league leader totals)
