Diamondbacks @ Astros - July 27, 2004
OK, this will be a brief one, since I don't have much time and didn't get many pictures. Looking over the D-backs roster, it is not surprising that they have the worst record in baseball.
As for the game, the Astros jumped out on Arizona starter Edgar Gonzalez quickly. Coming into the game, Gonzalez had an ERA of over 12 and had given up over 2 H/IP in 8 IP. Amazingly, his numbers actually looked worse after the game. The hits kept a coming against D-back knuckleballer Steve Sparks, and Houston was up 10-0 before I knew it. Adam Everett hit a pair of HR, and Bagwell & Kent each hit a long ball. I started the game on the Astros side and got my first decent pic of Andy Pettitte on the season. Just after this picture, Nolan Ryan totally stiffed me for an autograph, and I didn't even get a picture of him.

The only person who really signed well for Arizona was Carlos Baerga. Wow, Carlos Baerga. I came so close to asking him how it felt to be good 10 years ago, but bit my lip a couple of times.

The Unit didn't even come out before the game, I assume since a.) He doesn't pitch in this series and b.) He's not really a part of the team anymore, so I had to make do with trying to get such luminaries as Steve Finley (check), Luis Gonzalez (check), and Robbie Alomar (evasive - no check). Seriously, how far has Alomar fallen to be playing behind Scott Hairston?

My final pic goes out to the Fat Boy Fraternity, of which I am a proud member. The moment I noticed Mike Fetters' name on the roster, I knew I had to get a pic of him. He was the last one into the dugout, as he stopped to chat with some dude in a tie before entering the clubhouse. I was mumbling about Fetters wasting my time talking to some schmoe when he could be posing for me. I ended up getting a couple of pics of him and the mystery dude.

I then started looking closer at the guy Fetters was speaking with. I thought I recognized the face, but couldn't place it. Then it hit me - it was Mark Grace! I have never seen Grace dressed up, or with the (relatively) long hair he was sporting on this occasion, so I almost overlooked him entirely.
