Wow, $4.5 mil is a lot to pay for 8 starts a season.

IF Paul Byrd stays healthy and IF he has a good K:BB ratio and IF he has an ERA under 4 and IF he pitches over 175 innings I like this move for the Angels. In fact, then I like it a lot.

I think you could say about just about any pitcher, save a few.

No no, any pitcher that does that for $4.5M is a steal. I'm just saying, if he achieves those numbers then this was a great move. Just like if Darren Dreifort miraculously comes back and wins 20+ games for the Dodgers next year the $13M they're paying him will look pretty cheap.

I agree. Ortiz has a better arm. Rumors surfaced he was badly influenced by Jose Guillen last year. 4.5 mil for a #5 starter? What a joke. And what did Pavano get? 10mil? I guess all a pitcher has to do is have 1 good year and he's rolling in th $$$. Byrd had a good year with KC a couple years ago but that was a fluke. The whole team played above their heads.

Wow, can we blame the entire Angels season on Jose Guillen? What was Guillen doing, teaching Ortiz the knuckleball?

Perhaps Ortiz's crap season can be somehow be attributed to his hatred for A.J. Pierzynski and Anaheim's proximity to San Francisco.

Blame the entire season on Guillen? What the ***? After they cut him loose, they went on a run and made the playoffs.
