Matt Roth had an awesome career at Iowa. Roth was one of those guys you could count on to make the big play when it was needed. He and Babs will be missed this coming season.

I have no worries about him crashing a car anymore than I do the average NFL player.

The only thing I would compare between Roth and Rocker is their "I dont care what other people think attitude", Rocker has some other major issues.

Although I'm not a big Dolphins fan, I will be rooting for Roth at all times.

Damn straight.

I stared at that for about ten seconds trying to figure out what he'd changed before I realized what was bolded.

p\/\/n3g indeed.

As a Dolphins fan, I can't say I was pleased at first to see that we weren't addressing the offensive line. But I guess this thread has made me feel a bit more optimistic about drafting Roth. At the very least, he looks like he'll bring some intensity to the table.

Roth on being drafted by the Miami Dolphins:

(On how disappointed he is about dropping to the 2nd round) – “I am not disappointed at all. I am just glad to be on a team, on a team that wants me, and get back to work.”

(On how he feels about coming to a team with a head coach labeled as a defensive coach) – “I am excited. I am excited because he’s a good coach. I got to compete against him when we played LSU this year. They also have a great defensive end, (Jason) Taylor, and I am looking forward to learning from him. It’s going to be a great opportunity.

(On what his attributes are that make him a special player) – “I think I am more athletic than people give me credit for. I am intense and I just love the game of football.”

(On why he enjoys football) – “I like to hit. Anything doing with hitting linemen, running backs or quarterbacks, I just love the game.”

There's a good article on Roth in the Miami Herald, especially for Dolphins' fans:

Sebastian, thanks for the insight. When my Fins picked him he looked like a bad ass to me. Thanks!

Forgot about this thread! Roth got his first sack and fumble recovery last weekend. He's really helped the 'Fins in short-yardage situations, but hasn't seen the field much behind their two stud veteran DE's.

Thus, that picture.

A sack and a fumble recovery at the Jets is usually a good way to get on the good side of Dolphins fans.

Your little holiday Roth nugget:

Defensive end Jason Taylor was quite nice to his fellow defensive linemen for holidays, giving each a gift bottle of Louis VIII brandy. The liquor retails for as much as $375 a glass in some establishments.

Rookie end Matt Roth was a little shell-shocked. ''Man, I don't know. I'm good with just a beer,'' Roth joked.

Where is he now?

Like most linemen on either side of the ball, Roth needed his rookie year ('05) to get stronger, learn the NFL and get comfortable with his scheme. He did get his feet wet by playing in all 16 games, notching 20 tackles and a sack.

He established himself as a legit NFL lineman last year, serving as a backup but seeing time in all 16 games again, totaling 37 tackles, 3.5 sacks and forcing an impressive 3 fumbles.

He's now a starter for the 'Fins, and he made five solo tackles in week one. Word out of Fins camp is that this guy works his butt off, is intense as hell, and has turned himself into the real deal.
