Cubs sign Enrique Wilson

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?...mlb&id=2062500

The Cubs obviously want to send a message to their fans that they have absolutely no intention of winning anything this year. This is, of course, the famed Enweakque Wilson of the career .246/.288/.352 line and 65 OPS+, who had left the Yankees (who played him in more than half their games last season, signalling that he may have blackmail pictures of one or more Yankees executives) angry that they didn't start him more often.

Why do we need Enrique when we already have Neifi Perez? Are the Cubs collecting useless spare parts or what?

I was sort of expecting a response more in line with the reaction you had when the Cubs got Tony Womack, but this one is no less accurate.

Wow, they're really getting desperate for pitching.

Wilson will fill the role of Neifi Perez until Nomar comes back.

Thanked 4x in 4 posts
This is sad, but I vividly remember when Wilson was a big prospect for Cleveland and the press was saying he would be the next Carlos Baerga. I guess if you go with the 2nd half of Baerga's career this is actually pretty accurate.

I cant believe they got him with all the teams that have been beating down his door. Everybody knows he's still a productive player and the Cubs managed to steal him away from everyone. Good Job!!

Wow, you act like the cubs are looking to play him in each of their next 122 games.

No I act like its pathetic that stupid GMs keep recycling relics when there are 500 players in the minors better than Enrique Wilson.

This I agree with.

Edit - Well, except the 500 number, that's hyperbole

The cubs have no one in the minors that they can use as a utility player in the same way that Wilson could. The ones they have tried at least have shown that.

Well they've proven they aren't smart so they probably haven't brought up the right ones, but they are everywhere, and you don't have to look only in your own organization. There are career minor league types that will never get a shot in other organizations that can be had for a bag of balls and they can easily fill any role that Wilson possibly could. To think Wilsons talents are so unique that nobody else could fill his measly role is crazy.
