Chris Byrd was a 1992 Olympic Silver medalist as a middleweight but has plied his trade in the heavyweight division as a professional fighter and has been in the ring with some of the biggest hitters out there. Many have criticised Byrd's awkward, defensive style as a boxer but most recognise his achievements in the sport. He was defeated by Ike Ibeabuchi and Wladimir Klitschko but Byrd boasts victories over Vitali Klitschko, David Tua, Evander Holyfield and Jameel McCline to name just a few.

Chris Byrd is a tricky southpaw who makes up for his distinct lack of punching power by using his excellent boxing skills and many of his bouts have gone the distance. Wladimir Klitschko heavily defeated Byrd on points in Germany in the year 2000 and the explosive Ike Ibeabuchi over powered Byrd to a TKO 5 defeat back in 1999. Apart from those two defeats and a draw against Andrew Golota, Byrd has won all of his professional fights, although Vitali Klitschko was well in front against 'Rapid Fire' Byrd when the Ukranian had to retire because of a shoulder injury after the 9th round.
