Jack Munroe, "The Cape Breton Miner" came from the coal-mining town of Upper Kempt Head, Cape Breton Nova Scotia. No great boxer, Jack Munroe had had a total of 11 pro bouts and one exhibition before meeting Jim Jeffries for the title. Munroe never really took the sport seriously, rarely training, and relying on his natural brute strength and heavy right hand to beat a few tavern brawlers and draw with Hank Griffin before making his name against Peter Maher, Al Limerick and Sailor Tom Sharkey. As for the disaster in Frisco, his manager Harry Pollock always insisted that someone from Jeffries' camp had fed a doped orange to Munroe just before their fight. Jack didn't argue it and boxed only five more times, including a half-hearted No Decision effort with Jack Johnson in Philadelphia in which he carried 22 more pounds than he had against Jeffries. Munroe, a cheery fun-loving mug, might well have made a real name for himself in boxing had he trained seriously and bothered to learn the finer points of the game.

Dear Editor,

Please amend Jack's record to show that he was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia which is located up here in Canada. His manager was Harry Pollock. Also, his prime fighting weight was 190.

Yours most humbly,
Cap

Hello! Anyone home?

Birthplace country for Munroe should be Canada.
