Bio from board game

61(29)-7-1

Lightweight Champion from 1962-1965 and from 1965-1968. Ranks in the top 10 lightweights ever. This excellent lightweight was a duel title holder being, besides the lightweight champion, the junior welterweight king. Ortiz held the lightweight crown twice. He first took it away from Joe Brown, but lost it to Ismael Laguna. Seven months later he won it back. Ortiz could level you or punch you silly with jabs and combinations. He was almost impossible to knock down and was only stopped once in his career. Ortiz was an exciting champion during his reign. Ortiz made 11 title defenses during his career!

Carlos Ortiz was trained by Teddy Bentham, and Whitey Bimstein
served as his Cut Man. Later in his career during his comeback
Al Braverman served as Ortiz Cut Man.
