This time, we've got seat that actually may be visible on camera too! But they better announce an opponent for Matt soon or I'll be loosing a lot of finger nails between now and then.

An opponent has been announced for Remillard! This guy.
He's not much to look at but should be a nice step up in talent level for Matt. (although he did just lose to the one fighter that Matt didn't put away last year - four round decision.)

I would guess that attendance will not be what they had hoped. The Dunkin Donuts Center was telling people (or me at least) that there was no chance of the card being postponed right up to about 1:30 yesterday. Then they called it off at 2:00 or so. I assume that a number of people made the same call that I did and got early start due to weather. If I had driven 3 or 4 hours through the blizzard because I was told there was no chance of cancellation only to find an empty arena in Providence I'd have been plenty bent.
Oh well, still saying 'go Remillard'!!

I was going to say I could get a photo of Austin Rice from Waterford from a old New London Day microfilm, but I'll be about 105 years behind the discussion. He fought around the turn of the twentieth century, and beat George Dixon.

I just got back, need sleep so I'll be brief.
Manfredo is much better than I thought. Pemberton is shot. Jonathan Reid is terrible. Matt Godfrey is so-so, likely going no where. Matt Remillard does in fact hit like a mule, punished Crout with a few body shots that made him look like he wanted to quite and smoked him with a left to the side of his head and a right to the top of Crout's head as he lurched forward that ended it in one. Whoever ran this event needs to be shot - 3.5 rounds in two hours before the ESPN show started. I need sleep - night all.

A fun night at the fights. Chris pretty much nailed it in his post, except I think it was 2.5 rounds in two hours. The worst. They either needed a swing fight for the 7-9 p.m. block or to have started a bit later. I met Missy Fiorentino, the women's World Featherweight champ. She was very cool. Ray Leonard was also in the house, as were Tony DeMarco and Vinny Paz.

Yeah, you're right, it was 2.5 rounds in two hours - ugh. How hard is it to walk into a local gym and say you want four guys within 10 pounds of each other that want to make their pro debuts? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that two six-rounders (one featuring a guy who averages about two rounds per fight) are not going to fill two hours.
They tried to placate a restless crowd by giving away free MP3 players. But that only brought more boos when it became clear that all the 'random' seats drawn were in the $200 section. It's nice to know that everyone who runs boxing isn't a crook, some are just morons. It was however pretty good match making, but I felt bad for Pemberton - I hate to see a guy like him go out so ingloriously.

I failed to record the fight due to my own stupidity ... did Manfredo look good or is Pemberton just shot?
I take your boy looked good with the first rounder. Too bad the Estrada match ended so quickly it would have been good to see him with a middle of the road fighter like Diaz. |

Pemberton is shot, but Manfredo looks very good.
Here's an article on 'our boy' from the Hartford Courant. http://www.courant.com/sports/hc-box...adlines-sports Anything can still happen but it is looking more like my first impression of him back in August was right on. (I'm no expert - anyone with a few brain cells that sees Remillard fight knows there's a good chance he'll go far.)

It is too bad that they called that fight. The cut didn't look too bad and Diaz' corner was livid but the Doc wanted it to end.
