I was talking about the toolbox comment?

If you have two years of salaried restaurant management experience I can get you a job.

Nah, I'm not in the restarant biz, don;t really want to be either, was just blabbering.

Maybe it's a local thing, but "tool" is sort of a playful insult, for someone who is kind of ummm, off the charts? . . in this case I went with the whole damn box.

Deep Six is Back

Estrada tops Foxwoods card!
Wednesday, December 26 2007

2004 U.S. Olympian Jason "Big Six" Estrada (10-1, 2 KOs) battles former world heavyweight title challenger Charles Shufford (20-7-1, 9 KOs) and WBC Youth featherweight champion Manuel Perez (11-3, 2 KOs) defends his title against Matt "Sharp Shooter" Remillard (11-0, 7 KOs) in co-main events on January 25 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. "We're excited to be back at Foxwoods showcasing some of the top young prospects in boxing in their stiffest tests to date," promoter Jimmy Burchfield said. Also featured are unbeaten cruiserweight Aaron Williams (15-0-1, 11 KOs) vs TBA. Tickets are $40, $65, $100 and $150.

Shufford hasn't won a bout since July 2003 (a M12 win against the immortal Willie Champman). I can't see any reason that Deep Six can't win this.

Also, finally the return of Remillard.

I might be in for this card - but we'll have to wait to see if Jimmy Burchfield can actually make this card happen...

17 days and the card is still intact . . .not soon enough to buy tickets, but we're getting there
(The $150 are all sold out; second-tier seating, $100 is next, might have to jump sooner rather than later)

Chad Dawson vs. Glen Johnson in April . . should be a heck of a fight; looks like it's headed to Tampa, though

Dawson/Johnson should be good but I think Dawson stops him late.

Dawson/Johnson should be an entertaining fight. I agree with Mike....Dawson should get a late stoppage but Johnson will be in his face until the very end.

Two days to go, card still intact!! Looks like buy time!

Also, ESPN2s FNF will be live from the Mohegan, Feb. 15 . . at a top price of $75 I'm in now!

Bronx, NY - Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing in association with Mohegan Sun presents an exciting night of fights televised live on ESPN2, from the Mohegan Sun Arena. Headlining the card is Danbury, CT. resident welterweight sensation Delvin Rodriguez (21- 2-1, 13KO's) against undefeated New Jersey native Troy Browning (20-0-1, 8KO's) in a ten round welterweight bout.
The energetic Rodriguez is coming off a TKO victory over Keenan Collins on August 24, 2007, in the main event on ESPN2.

Nine bouts, 50 rounds and five hours of boxing later, I got home from Foxwoods at 1:35 a.m.

For $100 in the fourth row (ring level) of a pretty neat little house, it was a decent value. I'll let Dave tell the gory details, but local hero Matt Remillard (12-0) returned after a 16-month layoff to win the WBC Youth featherweight title from Manuel Perez (11-4). Scores were 98-92, 98-93, 96-94. Matt seemed to be in a much better mood than his opponent right after the fight, but I didn't think it was quite that decisive. I guess it's good to fight at home.

They only had two ring card girls, two cuties, but both 95-pound collections of skin and bones.

The line of the night came from a crass old-timer to my left who was great fun to BS with.

Me (yelling between rounds): Take it all off!!

Old-timer: If she took it all off, she wouldn't look any different than she does now.

Priceless!!

Foxwoods 1-25-08 "Champions Of Tomorrow"

As Will posted above, CES put on a 5-hour, 9-bout marathon card at the Fox Theater inside the massive Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, CT last night. Fighting the weekend traffic, I raced out to the casino for the 1st CT boxing event of 2008.

For $100.00 we had great seats and even got a free program. Local cable TV channel CN-8 was on-hand to tape the action, so things looked promising (plus the fact that Manchester local Matt Remillard actually might fight after a 16-month layoff. Despite all of this seemingly high-production value, it's hard not to notice that on page 1 of the official program (the President's Message from Jimmy Burchfield himself) boldly listed the incorrect date for the event - January 25, 2007. Could Jimmy have planned this card for over a year???

Anyways, onto the fights.

Bout #1: We arrived inside the Fox Theater at the very end of the opening 4-rounder between local CES prospect SMW Angel Camacho 8-0-0 (4) from Johnston, RI and hand-picked opponent Terrence "TJ" Jones 10-10-0 (6). As we found our seats, the unanimous decison was announced for Camacho (40-36 on all cards).

Bout #2: Announced as a "border war" fight between MA local Eric Pinaretta 1-1-0 (1) and RI local Bobo Stanino 8-2-0 (1) in the Middleweight division, this fight was terrible. It was clear that Bobo had other plans and did not want to be in the ring. After the 1st round he returned to his corner shaking his head and looked thoroughly disinterested. Pinaretta pressed the action in Round 2 and was knocking around Bobo for the full 3 minutes. Referee Joey Lupino stopped the fight after the ringside doctor decided that Bobo could no longer continue and Pinaretta was awarded a TKO2 victory w/ Bobo sitting on his stool.

Bout #3: CW prospect "Awesome" Aaron Williams 15-0-1 (11) stepped in against 3-time Title Challenger Manu Ntoh 17-13-1 (10) in an 8-rounder. 39-year old, 5'7 1/2" Ntoh was coming in after a 15-month layoff and 18lbs heavier than his last fight. At 6'1"", 21-year old Williams towered over Ntoh and what was expected to be a showcase blowout for the propect was a big disappointment. Williams did not use his height or youth at all while Ntoh bulled his way forward for the entire fight. The only problem, was that he couldn't reach his target. Williams continually layed on the ropes and bent backwards over the top rope (did I mention that the ring was extremely loose) out of range of Ntoh's punches. Ntoh was busier and "Awesome" Williams looked bored at times. In the end, Williams was awarded a hometown decison of 80-72, 80-72, 79-73. By no means did Ntoh win, but he certainly did not lose every round.

(Somewhere around this time, two guys sat down near us and asked when thier guy Bobo Starnino would fight. They left soon after hearing he already lost)

Bout #4: Local female WW Addy Irizarry 3-1-0 (2), a real-time corrections officer in one of CT fine prisons, took on Denver CO native Tonya Gallegos 4-6-0 (2) who was fighting for the first time in 22 months. At least she was a live opponent and was not discouraged by the site of her own blood. In Round 2, Addy smacked her in the nose and it opened up. For the rest of the fight, both women went after each other as Tonya's nose continued to pour blood. If Addy was more patient with her punches, she could have easily ended the fight by knockout, but instead was a bit too hyper and Tony managed to last until the final bell. Score: Irizarry 40-36 x 3. After the fight, Addy's dyke girlfriend posed for pictures w/ Addy, her trainer and CES President Jimmy Burchfield.

Bout #5: This was the best fight of the night. A brawl between two local LHW prospects: Irish Joe McCreedy 5-1-0 (4) and Chis Traietti 7-0-0 (4) - both from Massachusetts. Both guys had a loud cheering section in the crowd. McCreedy entered the ring for the first time in 15 months following his only loss (a KO in 3). Apparently there is bad blood between these guys because there was a lot of trash talking and punches thrown after the bell. McCreedy set the tone in the 1st by pinning Traietti against the ropes and firing uppercut after uppercut for almost the whole round. Both fighters were busy in the 2nd with McCreedy getting the better of every exchange, but Traietti did land quite a few hard body shots. McCreedy started slowing down in the 3rd and 4th, but still seemed to do enough to win. By the last 2 rounds, both were completely exhausted and Traietti was close to going down, but McCreedy wasn't able to lift his arms to throw any punches. When the final bell rang, both fighters actually found a second wind and were flailing punches for several seconds before broken up by the ref. McCreedy wins: M-6 59-55, 59-55, 57-57.

(Other local fighters, Tony Grano, Matt Godfrey, Joey Spina were on hand along w/ Baby Joe Mesi and Virgil Hill for quick ceremony to induct someone (sorry I can't remember who) into the CES Hall of Fame/Ring of Honor, etc)

(Surprisingly, local Hartford fighter Mike Oliver (IBF Super Bantamweight Champion) was also in the arena, but not invited to the ring)

(Vinny Paz was there for color commentary on the CN-8 broadcast)

(Eddie Mustafa Muhammad worked the corner for "Awesome" Aaron Williams)

Bout #6: Local SMW prospect Manel Lopes 4-0-0 (1) took on John Michael Terry (a.k.a. John the Baptist) 2-7-1 (0). This was supposed to be another showcase for CES prospect Lopes but he looked terrible. He seemed to approach the fight as only a sparring session and really did not look focused at all. After a pretty back-and-forth first round, Lopes got caught at the bell with a clean shot and went down for the 1st time in his short career. For the remaining 3 rounds, he was just headhunting and ignored his trainier (Goody Petronelli) and the screaming crowd to throw at least one body punch. This fight ended a Draw: 37-38, 38-37, 38-38.

Fight #7: Co-Main Event: Providence RI native Jason "Big Six" Estrada 10-1-0 (2) vs. Chares Shufford 20-7-0 (9). Let me just say this again, Estrada stinks!!! How this guy was considered the top US Amateur fighter of 2003 is a mystery. Listed at 6'1", he's really only 5'9 at best. Shufford was hand-picked to show off Deep Six's power (2 KO's). More than likely CES was looking for a washed-up, light-hitting, glass-jawed HW opponent w/ at least 20 wins on his record. Shufford is the guy having a 1-5-1 (0) record in his last 7 bouts dating back to Jan 2003. Definitely a step up for Deep Six, Shufford has been in the ring against (and lost to) W. Klitschko, Samuel Peter, Laurence Clay-Bey, Kelvin "Koncrete" Davis, Malik Scott, Jameel McCline. Estrada came out in Round 1 and kept Shufford on the ropes and managed to land quite a few uppercuts which did little damage. Shufford kept popping Estrada in the face, cause a nice mouse under his right eye. By the 4th round, Estrada looked confused and had no plan to attack the bigger Shufford. Shufford walkedthrough every punch that Estrada landed, sneered and then fired back. After the 5th, Shuffored raised his arm to the cheering crowd in victory. But it was not to be. Shufford seemed to tire in the later rounds while Estrada became the busier fighter - still unable to hurt Shufford but scoring points. This fight went a full 10 rounds with Deep Six getting a horrible hometown decison: 99-91, 99-91, 98-92. I'm not saying that Shufford won the fight, but he got jobbed by the local judges.

(I think it was at this point where CES had one of its sponsors try to get the crowd energized by holding some sort of contest in the ring where one fan's ticket was called - of course it was someone from the VIP seats - to get 5 chances to do something to unlock a plastic box containing a bag of fake money that would represent either $50,000 or a new Tundra p/u truck. No one really paid attention until it was announced that the guy actually won and chose the 50K. As for the spectators sitting in our area, the conversation was focused on coming up w/ funny one-liners to yell at the 2 anorexic ring card girls, who seemed to get more bony as the night wore on. I think that they went backstage to purge between each fight.)

Bout #8: Pro-debut for Foxwoods Casino dealer Brian Macy against stiff Pete Guthy 1-1-0 (1) from Myrtle Beach, SC. Guthy had nothing - other than a cute little duck and slide-to-the-left move that was pretty amusing. For a round and a half, Guthy just ran around the ring backwards, occasionally dodging Macy's punches with his "slide-move." It was just a matter of time before Macy timed the "slide-move" and land a good shot. It happened at 1:34 of Round 2 and Guthy went down. He got up at 9 but wobbled around unsteady. Referee stoppage. TKO 2 victory for the "now undefeated" Brian Macy.

(After this bout, about 1/4 of the remaining crowd left - probably Foxwoods employees that needed to get to work after seeing their buddy Macy win. On to the Main Event...)

Bout #9: WBC World Youth Featherweight Title between Manchester, CT native son Matt "Sharpshooter" Remillard 11-0-0 (7) and 23-year old Manuel Perez 11-3-0 (2) originally from Honolulu HI but now fighting out of Denver CO. Remillard returns to the ring after a 16-month absence that included to surguries on his wrist. He really should have taken an easy warm-up fight first. Perez was very fast and Remillard could not use his superior power to take control of the fight. Perez was much busier but Remillard seemed to land the cleaner punches - none of which hurt Perez. Each round was very tough to score. Remillard may have hurt his hand in Round 8 because he started to use it less and shake it a bit between flurries. Hopefully this is not serious. Anyways, this boring fight went to the cards and the hometown judges gave Remillard the nod with the wildy unbeliveable scores of 98-92, 98-93, 96-94. He may have won, but what fight were two of the judges watching?

5-hours of boxing for $100.00 was not a bad night, but the hour and 20 minute drive home was tough. Thank God for the Braile markers on the highway or I wouldn't have stayed awake...

WBC World Youth Featherweight Title? I wonder just how many title belts are floating around in the world.

Actually Oliver is the IBO champ. The last time I checked, he was the No. 2 contender for Steve Molitor's IBF belt and the No. 1 contender spot was vacant. Oliver won an "eliminator" over Cruz Carbajal, but alas, Fernando Beltran Jr. has magically jumped to the No. 1 contender spot and my guess is Mike-Mike got shafted from being a mandatory challenger.

Good write up although I'm not sure that was necessary ... also I have seen pictures of the two and I'm pretty sure if I was going to use that word on one of the two in the relationship ... it wouldn't be the girlfriend.

That last bit of your second post made me agree with the first post!!

Description in question made me laugh and cringe at the same time in a Gilbert Godfried sort of way.

I'm not a fan of the derogatory term but if anyone is the derogatory term in this relationship it's Addy, not the girlfriend!

Apologies to anyone offended or disturbed by my descriptive words. No malice was intended. I'll be more careful what I post in the future...
