Does anyone who saw the fight think there's anything left in Harding or is it dog track time? If he is done, that kind of happened overnight.

While on the subject of old Connecticut fighters, has anyone seen anything official regarding what is up with Clay-Bey? It's been almost a year since the draw with Bryant, is he retiring or going to schedule another fight. At his age, I thought that he would have scheduled something by now if he wanted to continue.

According to Boxrec he has nothing scheduled at he moment. I will check around and see if he has any plans to fight again.

Harding reminded me alot of Monte Barrett in that fight ... he'll be a tough out the rest of his career .. but Dawson looked very good.

Not me, he looked liked he needed a spatula . . . which seemed odd to me. Last time out he looked decent, but he has the stench of a shot fighther on him . . . training, weight issues, poor health habits, I don't know, but he looked like I could beat him, though I'd have to come down 15 lbs. to make light heavy. He just looked awful lethargic after the first couple rounds.

Just an FYI for the CT crew...

Remillard heading west
By: Sherman Cain, Journal Inquirer
06/16/2006

All nine of Matt Remillard's professional fights have been in New England.
With fight No. 10, Remillard is going to travel to the opposite end of the country. Remillard (9-0) will next fight on July 20 in Portland, Ore. No opponent has yet been named, but trainer Paul Cichon said the Manchester boxer may even headline the card. Showcase Productions is promoting the show, which will be held at the Hilton Hotel...

Ah, so that's why he was pulled off the Hyannis card. I am glad that I didn't buy tickets - Kathryn and I were toying with going because her sister lives about 1/2 hour from there and her parents will be on the Vineyard (free accommodation opportunities were plentiful).

It's funny how messed up boxing is, the Providence promoters listed Remillard as part of that card right after his last win (he was the first name they touted) and only pulled him off about 10 days ago.

Thanks for the note.

I think fighting out of New England will be good for Matt. He needs to face tougher opposition and a hostile crowd. It will help build his character as a fighter.

I wish it weren't so (I would rather be able to see him again) but that is true. Where he really needs to go is the Southwest where more true featherweights are available.

And getting away from Clown Promotions in Providence will be a bonus.

Good point. Whoever his promotion team is should get him fights in New Mexico and Texas. He might suffer a few losses but he will gain some good experience. That area is a hotbed for featherweights. Some decent featherweights in Louisiana, also

A buddy of mine got a couple of tickets for tomorrow nights fights @ Mohegan Sun. Local New Haven SMW Elvin Ayala (14-0 6K) will be headlining against Larry Marks (28-7 16K)

Also on the card is Hartford native SBW Mike Oliver (12-0 6K). Supposed to be a total of 7 fights on the card. I hope its a good night of boxing. I haven't had a chance to see either of the CT kids yet.

"Free" is good, so I couldn't turn down the ticket. Since I don't gamble or drink, I'll only be spending money on food and gas.

Ditto. That's why the Hyannis card that Remillard was supposed to be on had me a little excited. It will be in a tent where summer concerts are held. While I don't mind going to the casinos, I dislike them immensely for a number of reasons that really don't have a place on this forum. What is relevant here is that the crowds are rarely as electrifying as the non-casino venues can be. Too often, a large portion of the casino fight crowd consists of non-fans and can make for a dull experience.

While that is very true, I find myself going to see these fight cards anyways. Since there aren't many boxing shows around within a reasonable drive, I'll take what I can get.

BTW, at one of the earlier shows I went to, I ran into a couple of people representing the new CT Boxing Hall of Fame. They were hawking t-shirts and trying to drum up interest. There will be a 2006 induction ceremony/dinner at one of the casinos in December.

Here's the web site: http://www.ctboxinghof.com/

So far there are only 6 inductees:

Bat Battalino
Johnny Duke
Louis “Kid” Kaplan
Willie Pep
Maxie Rosenbloom
Marlon Starling

I don't know who the 2006 nominees are.

Remillard scored another TKO last night here in Connecticut. The dude he fought was a last minute substitute.

I am not sure when/if he is going west. For his sake, I hope it's soon.
