MH's son's football thread (OT)

My son is a sophomore WR for this team, we've got a huge game this Friday night. We regularly turn out close to 4500 fans for the home games. My son sits behind 3 seniors at WR and no juniors. He is second string FS and the starting kick and punt returner. The team we play Friday is one of the best non private schools in the state.

Anyone not familiar with Kentucky Highschool Football, it has been dominated by private/catholic schools for a long time. Teams like Trinty (where Brohm won 4 state championships) and Saint Xavier have won like the last 10 AAAA championships. The recently voted to have a seperate playoff for non-public schools. Boyle County who we play Friday night has gone 31-1 since 1999 in the playoffs and have won 5 out of the last 6 state championships at AAA. Needless to say I am psyched about Friday night.

Just thought I'd share with the part of the OOTP board that I care about

Good luck in Friday's game! Maybe the team should watch "Remember the Titans" to get psyched for the game.

First time all year the paper has predicted Bullitt East (my son's team) to lose. Supposed to be in the 20's tonight - good football weather. Their school contacted our school on Monday as said they hope to bring 3000 fans. That could put the crowd close to 7500 tonight. We were told for parking to get there at 4:30 for a 7:30 kickoff ... can't wait.

Congrats to your son's team. I played ball at one of those Catholic powerhouses out here in California in the early '70's. In a span of less than 30 years our school produced Jim Fregosi, Tom Scott, Lynn Swann, Tim Cullen, Raymond Clayborne, Michael Jackson (the linebacker not the singer), Ricky Morris, Greg Jeffries, Barry Bonds, Scott Chiamparino, Tom Brady and about 100 other D-1 players in Football, Baseball and Basketball. Now, the school is just an also ran and loses on a regular basis to the Public Schools. Even National powers like De La Salle and St. Francis are starting to lose to the public schools. It's all cyclical and they should not have the private and public schools playoffs separate............
Sorry I got side tracked, just that I live for high-school and college (LSU) football. Boxing is a close second.

Anyway....GO BULLITT EAST....BEAT BOWLING GREEN

Congrats on the big win!!

I coach youth football and today we have our Super Bowl!! - I coach what is called the "major's division" (there is flag, pee wee, minors & Majors) - Majors being 11 & 12 year olds -

Our Super Bowl is today at 1:30pm!! - Great Super Bowl weather today, in the mid-50's and no rain -

Our kids just completed an amazing undefeated regular season 8-0 (only giving up 6pts!! all season. We have a hell of a defense) - Won our first rd playoff game 24-0....and now we face the the only team to score on us this season in the Super Bowl - (we beat them in the regular season 14-6).

Bunch of great kids this year (character wise, as well as ability) - We all watched game film yesterday from 6pm-8pm -

They are ready mentally (as best 11 & 12 year olds can be that is!!) - But the school we play today has won the super bowl the last 3 years....they come from a much larger community and put together much larger teams. HS program comes down and coaches them (lots of stuntting, etc)

Wish us luck!

And again, congrats mh2365 on your son's teams big victory.

Thanks for the support guys ... no article yet this morning will probably have to wait until Monday to link one. 4 Teams left in AAA. Bowling Green 12-1, only loss was to Saint X who is the best AAAA team, they lost 13-7. They have outscored their opponents 569-40. 8 of their last 9 games have been shutouts.

Bullitt East (us) we are 13-0. Outscored our opponents 606-175. We travel to Bowling Green due to both of us being #1 seeds, they base it on the year. They are Region 1 champs and we are Region 2 champs. They are the odd region and it's an odd year.

Lexington Catholic 12-1 the #1 seed from Region 3. Their only loss was also to Saint X and they lost 37-34. Their senior QB, Justin Burke, has a full ride to NC State and is listed by Rivals as the 15th best Pro-style QB in the country. Going into last nights game he was 185-296 for 3133 yards and get a load of this an insane TD/Int ratio of 56-4.

the last team is Rockcastle county the #1 seed of region 4 they have a record of 11-2.

I was hyped up all last week for the Boyle County game, now I got to get right back up for Bowling Green. State Championship is played at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium (L'Ville Cardinals stadium) on Saturday December 3rd.

Good luck to your Son's team in the Semi's Mike. The High School I coach at here in Phoenix got knocked out in the Quarterfinals last Friday, as our line play hurt us in the second half. Add to that my BYU Cougars losing the Holy War to those Bastard Utah Utes and it was a crappy Football weekend for me. That means all my remaining Football hope will be on Bullitt East this Friday!!!

I agree totally, he had some growing pains this year, but I like the direction things are headed and he is very consistent!! Something Gary Crowton was not......We need to recruit a couple of stud JC defensive backs and a solid JC D-Lineman to fill some gaps, Linebackers will be the strength of the D next year.

The Offense will roll next year. At times started 3 Freshmen on the O-Line and they were crushing people by years end, we only lose the center. Add to that Beck, Brown, Harline, Coats and Reed back at skill positions, plus a couple of blue chip recruits next year and Ray Hudson, who redshirted this year.....already excited.

I kinda wonder if Olsen is regretting the move to UCLA now ... he'd of been a star in Provo, now he's not even the best Olsen on his team.
