Can I play game like the original board game ...
Is there anyway to setup the GAME, so that is would be just like playing the original Title Bout Boxing by Avalon Hill/Sports Illustrated?
I want to 'see' and 'feel' the CARDS as they happen (see who is in control and what happens next). Simulating the fights is NO FUN without seeing 'each' card or 'dice roll' ... Thanks! |

tough to answer, this game is so much better than the board game in every single manner ... so can sim the fights so slow that you feel the punches, but nothing really can replace throwing the dice and looking up the results.
The main thing is you will never see the board game again so if you want to move forward this is what you have. |

I'm a big fan of the board game, and still play it from time to time even though I've also owned every computer version of TB.
If you slow the game down like mh says, read all of the text, and monitor the stats/traits/condition tabs closely, you can set a pace similar to the board game and understand what the "card" would have been for each punch. However, I suspect it won't be too long before you start hitting the + button and speed the game up. Personally, what I've found is that TB2 is so flexible that you're better off taking advantage of the features of the computer version and developing a different style of play than with the board game. I play the two versions very differently (and enjoy both equally). In fact, as the different computer versions of the game have progessed and people on this forum share their ideas, my play style and universes have continued to evolve as well. |

Yeah,I missed the cards and feel of the board game as well. It seemed as if you could get a better picture of the match with the board game. However,as I have become more familiar with the computer version,I dont think that I would enjoy the board version as much. I think with the punch stats and rankings along with the history and such, makes the computer version just as enjoyable, though the old board game will hold a special place in my heart. My many hours spent playing as a youth really got me hooked on the sport and it is a jones that I still have today. Sometimes when I have a big fight in my universe,I will slow the action down and really get into the detail of each round. That really helps to do that once in a while to change it up.

So, basically .. the computer version is NOT the board game
Well, thanks for all your replies!
I am a FAN of the board game ... I like it so much! I just feel like there is more control of the 'game' on a personal level then with a SIM on the computer. I will 'try' the computer version (and really I will) I will see if I can sort of come to understand what the 'card' for each boxer 'looks like digitally', but I probably will be turning back to the board game .... I don't know ... I just tought this computer version was REALLY just the board game gone to PC version. I haven't spent more then 15 min. into the computer game, so I 'bummed' now, but who knows if that will change after a few hours of the PC version ... I know they made a Mike Tyson card for the board version of the game, but that took a 'separate' purchase from the game company, and that is a hard thing to 'find' as a stand alone product on eBay, etc. Thanks! |

Check out the inside the ropes section to see the different was we all play it. Most of us have our rules at the start of the universe. Mine, however, are spread throughout because it's been running over two real years. |

I never played the board game, but I did have a card and dice game back in the 70's that was almost an obsession. My Mom accidentally threw it out when she was spring cleaning. The PC version is very different. There's something about being able to actually touch something that makes it more real in your mind. Who was it that suggested having cardboard cut-out fighters that you could move around?

I dont think I ever played this particular board game, but I did play 2 different board games with individual cards for each boxer. One was very simple and the other was a lot more detailed. I loved them both, and I undestand how you feel. Having to do everything to run the fight immerses you in the game so much more. When I first started playing the PC version here, I started simming slowly and watching everything hoping it would be the same, but it was not. I then began just simming fights so fast it became simply another PC game to me. With the release of TBCB2, I took a different approach, I change tabs a lot to see whats actually happening in the game, and I tend to look a lot of fighters up on the web just to get a bit of an idea who they realy are/were. I find that part as enjoyable as anything esle. I am learning a lot about fighters that I would never have paid any attention to in the past. In the board games I would tend to just use the best guys all the time. Now I have some favorites that are trial horses and wannabees. I love it. Ah well, enough rambling, give it a try for a while, it may not be exactly the same experience, but it may very well grow on you like it did me.

If you just have to play the board game, there is an excellent Yahoo group devoted to it. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/TitleBout/
You will find ratings, modded tables, and computerized action cards there.
