Thompson/Guinn

I have it 6 -1 for Thompson. He fights like a tall fighter should, popping the jab to set up his other punches. He might be much better than that rating of 4.

Dominick Guinn is one of the biggest enigmas in recent memory. He fights inside against Fraudley and stays busy. Against Thompson he stays back and lets the guy continually pop him in the face.

8-1 Thompson.

This fight should be stopped. Thompson hurt Guinn in the 10 and dominated the 11th. I scored it 10-8 in both rounds. Goodbye Dominick.

11-1 Thompson (120-107). Only round he lost was the second IMO.

I had it 10-2 with two 10-8 rounds. I'll post an update of both shortly. Give me your opinions of each. I think Guinn is now a +4 D and around a 36/34 PL?

I agree with what you have for Guinn. Thompson is way better than a 4 now. I think you should move up his jab points (obviously )

In the works. We must realize that he was in against an unmotivated Guinn. He will get a shot at someone now. I'm impressed with Thompson's ring generalship. He moved Guinn where he wanted him and controled the pace of the fight.

Guinn looked like he didn't even show up for the fight. Telling ESPN "his love for boxing is back". Nice way of showing it when you single handely quit the last three rounds. I bet he will not be on televised TV anymore after this pathetic performance.

I agree on the ring generalship. Thompson controlled every aspect of the fight. It might have been against a unmotivated Guinn, but he fought a hell of a fight. Quite impressed with him.

Thought Guinn looked awful and I was very impressed with Thompson's performance tonight. I'm a little worried about his age, though given the current state of the heavyweight division it might not be a major concern. I scored it 119-108 with the 11th being 10-8 and I can certainly see any argument for the 10th also being a 10-8 round.

I doubt if a contender will want to take on Thompson due to his size and boxing ability. I'm hoping that one of the champions takes him on. I doubt if it will be sergie since they own similar styles.

Hopefully one of the taller HW champs will take him on. I doubt it though since his style would definitely make it a tough night for anyone. Since Tony got a later start in boxing, his age should not affect him yet. He's definitely not a Matt Skelton.

I'm a big fan of Lyakhovich and I think any fight with him would be a bad one for Thompson to take. I guess if Thompson is to take any title fight my opinion would be that he'd have his best shot against Rahman because I don't see him matching up well with Lyakhovich, Klitchko, or Valuev.

I watched Lyakhovich workout at the boxing hall of fame. I also got his autograph. His trainer also signed the photo.

In my opinion,Lyakhovich is probably the most well rounded of the current champs. He beat what many people consider the best heavy in the business. He showed that he has improved by leaps and bounds since his lost to Harris. He doesnt even look like the same fighter. I am always wary of rerating fighters after one performance. Guinn looked like he didnt give a sh** if he won or lost. I think that was a disgusting performance in my books. Thompson is a decent fighter who uses his size well, has nice tools and comes to fight. However,at age 34 one has to wonder if he will get any better. He is capable of beating some of the top guys if he catches them on an off night. By top guys,I mean the top 5 or 6 guys. He is one of those guys that you wish would have taken up the sport a few years earlier. He has all the qualities you look for in a fighter. With the heavyweight division as wide open as it is at this point, you would think that fighters would get in the best shape of their lives and start turning in the best performances of their careers, that is what makes me cringe when I see someone like Guinn, who has had several chances to get that big victory, blow it every time he gets a chance. I think his days as a contender are finished. Hopefully, one of the young prospects will realise this and step up to the plate. One big win can catapult a former contender,or up and coming prospect, right back into the picture. String together 3 or 4 big wins in a row and you are suddenly the man. Boxing has been starving for a great heavyweight really since Holmes prime. Tyson and Lewis were great for short periods but had too many liabilities to be considered one of the greatest of all time. Imagine the money and fame that is just waiting for the right heavyweight to step up and take. It amazes me when you see guys blow opportunity after opportunity.

I think Liakhovich and Wlad are the two right now that have a chance of running with the division. Even some of the guys at a crossroads in their career can make an impact now if they get serious and make a statement but a lot of the HW's are inconsistent. This division has been historically wide open unless it was in an era of one guy that dominated everyone else (Louis, Marciano, Ali, ect.). Who knows what will happen.
