Pacquiao-Larrios
Anyone will watch the fight? It's slated at 9 AM here in the Philippines, less than 3 hours to go.

If I knew Bob Sheridan was the play by play guy, I might not have bought it. He is the worst . . threee worst. I like how he introduces himself as "The Colonel" Can you intoduce yourself by your nickname? Is that legal? Actually I didn't know the cat was still alive. He is and he still repeats some things 10 times during a fight that are not directly related to the fight itself.
The color guy is Dave Bontempo (sp?) who actually said, counterpunchers don't often win rounds. Really. He said that.

Reminds me of hearing Tim McCarver educate the viewer that "they'll want to watch so-and-so on first because he could be looking to take second. And that would put him one base closer to home."

That's Tim. I guess he's good for the large volume of casual fans who will watch post-season games, but I can't really listen to him anymore.

Seems like no one cared, but Manny by Unan. decision 12.
The lack of chatter on this one seemed odd to me. Manny is probably one of the Top 5 fighters in the world and Larios I guess is Top 20? Top 30 or 40? Manny got rocked in the third round, looked like he was dazed for bit. But he scored KDs in the seventh and 12th and won about 10 rounds. The broadcast was pretty poor. Next time I make sure in advance and if it's not an HBO PPV show, I'll be less likely to get it. The undercard was pretty much useless, a local guy against someone with 15 losses, half of an earlier fight to fill time and one really good bantamweight bout. I don't know who they were, but they beat the asterisk-asterisk-asterisk-asterisk out of each other for 10 rounds. Sheridan said Pac-Man was bigger inthe Phillipines than God/Elvis/Beer/Sex like 7,000 times and Bontempo is a guy that's been with second-rate productions his whole life for a reason.

We got back from out of town (Origins, if you must know) a couple hours before this started and the wife wanted to buy it, so we did.
I agree that the broadcasters were pretty bad. Am I the only one who thinks Pacquiao could have won by stoppage in round 7? I'm not saying he carried Larios through the rest of the fight, no way, but I think he did not apply very often the overwhelming storm attacks he used so much in Morales I and II. Larios was incredibly game, and can certainly take a heck of a punch. Nice touch, too, thanking the audience in Tagalog after the fight was over. I think he made quite a few fans in the Philippines last night. In the post-fight interview, Manny was his usual modest and soft-spoken self. A good "people's champion." |

I though Pacman would stop Larios in the middle of the fight. Give credit to Larios for showing a lot of heart and going the distance with such a strong power puncher. I don't think this fight got the attention it should have is because it was fought in the Phillipines instead of the States. I like both fighters and they are both true warriors and part of the few humble guys in the sport.
