Wink Info wanted on DES COX shoreditch boxer 1960's.

Hello Boxing fans out there!

I came across this website as I am trying to gather information on my father. Des Cox he was a heavy weight out of Shoreditch in the 1960's. It seems a few people know about him here and have some information on him. I am his daughter and currently I live in New York. Des Cox is very well and still lives in the East End of London. He is a successful business man and has a very happy life and yes he still follows boxing.

I am trying to gather as much information on him as possible as I would love to put some kind of memoir together for him.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. I plan on visiting London in a couple of months and would love to try and locate some old paper clippings of his fights back in the day.

Looking forward in hearing from anyone out there with any information however small it is.

Thank you

Miss Emma Louise

Thanks for coming onto our board. There are some historians on here so you might get some answers. Looking at boxrec, it appears your dad was only active for about 20 months and 10 fights. Might be hard to find print on him.

Hi,

Your best bet may be to try and contact the guy who covers the 'old fighters' in the weekly mag we have in the UK called 'Boxing News'.

When I get home I will get you the contact details.

East London Cannonball.......

Thanks.
Well he boxed all his life. I guess when you say active I think you are saying professionally right? He used to bounce alot in london clubs then had a few of his own and a mens clothes shop and other adventures. He was always interested in businesses and other adventures and I think he found the whole boxing world a little crooked at those times. He was also older when he broke into the professional side of boxing. Who knows. I know that for a man who boxed all his life he certainly has come out tops. I just would love to hear more facts and hear about the fights and see some pictures.

Thanks everyone!

Boxing News

claude.abrams@boxingnewsonline.net

The above is an email address for the editor of Boxing News.

The guy who writes all the articles on the 'old timers' is Ron Olver, maybe you could ask Mr Abrams to pass on your request to him.

Good Luck.

Des looked to be a pretty good boxer...9-1 over a short 18 month career.

Short?

I briefly spoke to him yesterday and he said his career was not that short. I will get to the bottom of this.

One year, eight months, and 20 days.

This is his professional record...he may well have been an amateur for several years.

This is not neccessarily true. As is the case with many fighters listed at boxrec.com, it states at the bottom of Cox's page that the record listed there may be innacurate or incomplete.
