Cinco De Mayo - Mayweather vs. De La Hoya

Espn is reporting it is a done deal.

Mayweather 117-111. After the fight people say De La Hoya was old and past his prime and Mayweather is ridiculed for not KO'ing him.

OSCAR AND MAYWEATHER INTERVIEWS!!!

I WAS ON THE PHONE FOR THE MAYWEATHER ONE!!!(TO RECORD CHECK IT OUT ON BOXINGTALK SOON)

OMG HE GOTTED LIKE EXTRA EXCITED WHEN GREG MENTION HIS POPS!! MAN AND HE WAS LIKE HE PROMISE HE WILL STAND TOE TO TOE BECAUSE HE WANT TO GO OUT WITH A BANG AND A GOOD FIGHT THAT WAS AACTION PACKED!! BECAUSE IF HE GO OUT WIH A BORING DECISION THAT HE WONT BE REMEMBERED! AND HE SAID HE WILL ONLY FIGHT OSCAR FROM NOW ON LMAO!!

I am so pumped i got even more pumped when i heard mayweath vs. kermit cintron or zab judah could be one of the ifights on the undercard!

And mosley will return to the welterweight division feb 24th again tba wat im eharing it could luis collazo or even deigo corales lol i know people eyes might pop out..but deigo wants the fight and he is on golden boy..he cant make 135 or 140 so he have to fight at 147 and feb 24th is the perfect date check out for that interview i didnt record it i dont think its been done yet..but u kno wen they call for interview they give u an idea of wat the fighter gonna talk about..and from wat i heard they representer said something like deigo have to fight at 147 now and feb 24th is the date he wants and he wants a MEGA FIGHT...

So either it mosley deigo or mosley tba..and deigo kermit to set up the may 5th showdown so...i thought that was interesting because when i heard it..it sort gave me this..exciting yet predictable sense (Mosley vs. corales) but thats my take on it..i havent heard no official or rumored just me connecting the dots.

p.s told ya that oscar maywether would be signed end of the week..wanna hear something said oscar could have the fight be a wbo and a wbc fight mor eon that later .

If they fight @ 154 for Oscar's title, I doubt Floyd could knock out Oscar even if he wanted to. Floyd's not a real big guy & his hand problems don't lend themselves to stopping even an older Oscar.

Hey erick, sounds like you were right about Oscar. I heard Merchant talking about Oscar fighting on past this May bout he has proposed.

Boxingtalk has always been one of those let's throw out 57 guesses and then brag on the one we got right type of site. But Erick knows I don't care for his site and it's nothing against him. One thing though Erick, calm down before typing next time ... when you are excited it's hard to read your posts.

My point on that Hamed is that no matter how big Floyd wins the fight, no one will give him any props afterwards. That is how it always goes with Floyd. Just like in the Baldomir fight. Floyd was fighting a guy who was Ko'd 1 time in his 7th bout 12 years ago, and from my understanding it was the only time he was ever down.

What does Floyd get after pitching a shutout? Well Sugar Ray would've knocked him out. No Sugar Ray would not have. So WHEN Floyd handles De La Hoya easily (and I'm a big Oscar fan) no one will give Floyd any props.

You're likely right on all accounts - But with that said.....in a way I see PBF (of late...early on he beat the best guys from JLW/LW)....but just like ODLH made his name off fighitng "post-prime" guys (on his way up)....of late PBF is doing the same thing (Gatti, Mitchell, Zab).

At the same time PBF doesn't get the credit he deserves for wins over Baldomir, Corrales, Castillo, Manfredy, G. Hernandes, J. Chavez....

As for this fight.....like I said I agree...PBF by wide UD.

Regarding what Erick said.... A D. Corrales Vs Sugar Shane fight at 147 would be great! That would be a hell of a match-up - Though I'm wondering if Sugar Shane can get back down to 147 (and do so fit and healthy)....

I see what you're saying mh & the fact that you're an Oscar fan too & still think Floyd handles Oscar easily makes your belief in Floyd even stronger. I'll tell you, if Floyd handles Oscar easily, it would surprise me & I'd be the 1st to give him his props @ the higher weights too - he already is the man in my book @ 130/135, etc.

If this is @ 154, I just don't see this being such an easy fight for Floyd. If he thinks fighting Carlos (the biggest guy he ever fought) prepares him for Oscar's speed & power, he might be in for a rough night. Floyd has the speed edge but Oscar has the punchers chance in this one.

Either way, it's great news & I can't wait for May!

I don't see it being as easy for Floyd either.
Oscar is the bigger and stronger man, even with a disadvantage in speed for this fight, still faster than most guys Floyd has fought prior and he won't be right in front of PBF like Gatti and Baldomir were.
I think this will be a highly entertaining fight, I see Floyd winning a narrow split decision. The knock on Oscar isn't so much his age, as it is the ring rust he may bring with him.
No doubt both of them will be in top condition, and let's hope no one gets injured in training to screw this up.
Just for the record, I'm no die hard fan of either guy.

Excellent points Bronx. If your prediction of a close decision by Floyd comes true, I can see these 2 going @ it again in Sept - so they can make even more money!

I love them both .. but I think Floyd is the hardest man to hit in the game right now. The ones he doesn't dodge he catches with his shoulders and elbows. He went down one time and it was after he broke his hand on a punch he threw. He has been in with some punchers also.

I just think he fights his normal fight and De La Hoya lands enough punches to excite the crowd but not to win many rounds. That said my boy Oscar has gotten his share of gift decisions so anything can happen!

He is old and past his prime...

But I would not ridicule anyone for not KO'ing De La Hoya. The only knock out he suffered was from a liver shot.

I think Mayweather wins it easily.

They say it is going to be for DLH's 154 belt, which should benefit Oscar.

Mayweather won't be a punch magnet for DLH like Mayorga was, and with his recent inactivity I think Oscar will have a hard time imposing his size/strength advantage against Mayweather's speed and movement.

I see it as one of those fights where neither guy hurts the other and may not be that exciting to watch, but Mayweather's accuracy and defense are the difference.

Wink

maxx could be right.

Hey mh, I already have an excuse for Oscar:

He should have taken this fight last Sept & forced Floyd to move up to 154 then. Oscar would have been sharper - coming off the Mayorga fight in May & Floyd would have had even less time adjusting to fighting @ 154.

Boxingtalk may throw "57 guesses" but they have the interviews too...And no other site or news outlet have that as of now. And for the record..I love all the boxing sites and hope all are successful, I am a boxing fan first...and the more sites the more boxing is shown and more demand of fights! And that sound beautiful to me.

I was very excited...because I got to hear Floyd a very sincere floyd on the phone...lol and I guess I should have calmed down a little before typing it, LMAO.

With that being said..Oscar will pay mayweather sr. ALOT of money and other incentives depending on how the fight end..if he won blah..blah blah..

As of now my prediction stands as the following: Oscar 8th round KO...

Mayweather moving up to 154? I don't like that, seems like floyd gave in too much for this fight. And to think his main motivation would be earning a win against his pops, I just dont like the sound of that.

I agree with Mike, Mayweather by UD Oscar might make it interesting in the beginning but Floyd pulls away as the fight goes on. Hopefully, it leads to a Mayweather/Mosley fight down the road.

I have never been a big fan of Oscar, but I respect him a great deal as a fighter. However,I think Floyd is just too good right now. Too fast, too slick..just a great fighter at the top of his game. Shame that people wont give him the respect that he deserves. My big concern is the fact that they are fighting at 154..for an original lightweight that is a big jump. I would have thought that Floyd would have tried to get Oscar to meet him at 147. I guess the fact that Floyd needs this fight more than Oscar probably prevented that from happening. I see Floyd winning by decision, maybe Oscars size and strength at this weight will give PBF a little trouble for the first couple of rounds before Floyd gets his rhythm. I am glad that this fight got made quick as it did...I was afraid that it wouldnt take place for another year or two and then people would really say that Floyd beat an old man. I think Oscar still has plenty left and a Floyd victory shouldnt be marred by people saying he beat an old man. Oscar looked pretty damn good in his last fight. Well, see ya later guys.
