I Hate Jim Lampley
Just got around to watching the Lacy - Tsypko fight. Close fight, but definitely exposes Lacy.
Once again I am reminded about how much I DESPISE Jim Lampley. The guy just can't be quiet, repeating what we hear from the corner over and over, like it's "insight", and spouting half-baked, bogus opinions - even arguing with the guy who actually IS a great observer and commentator, Emmanuel Steward. He thinks he knows everything, yet constantly misses the obvious - for instance, Lampley totally missed the corner guys talking to Lacy about his bum shoulder, something apparent to anyone watching, and loudly marvels at Lederer's perceptive analysis pointing this out a couple of rounds later. Condescending and smug, Lampley is the consummate know it all that knows a whole lot less than he thinks he does. I remember him having a talk show when I lived in the LA area, and he was an absolute ass to callers - arrogant and boorish. The only guy I hate more behind the mic is Jim Gray, that self-important dweeb over at Showtime. Am I the only one who absolutely can't stomach the guy?

Lampley can get on your nerves thats for sure...but I hate Merchant more than any other announcer of any sport. I dread his long-winded,overblown,philosophical wrap ups to each show. Soon as I hear "Ya know,I am reminded of an old proverb....blah blah blah"..I know the show if over and the channel is changed..lol. Amazing that no one has smacked Merchant yet. I know several guys have wanted to. However,as far as bad announcing...the BAD team lives up to their name. What a terrible group of guys. Lennox is lost,Max is OK in the studio not at ringside and the Fran Charles guy..well,no words to describe him..lol. Give me ole Gil Clancy anyday. I feel your pain BigMatt.

People have to remember boxing is unlike any other sport, experts can be fans and Jim has his fighters, such as ikem, taylor and oscar if you watch them fight he almost act like he dont see punches that lands on them and he sees punches that dont land for the fighters he is fans of!
But with that said he is the best in the buisness and I would hate to see him go |

Believe it or not, Jim is actually one of the better grads to come out of UNC but I hear what you're saying. You should hear UNC fans talk about their BB program or lord help the college football world now since Butch Davis is their FB coach. They're actually talking BCS bowl games & national titles in football over there. They are a power in women's soccer & we all know how important that is to the rest of the country ![]() |

Lampley is a great ambassador of the sport .. he will talk about boxing anytime anywhere. Always enjoy when he subs for Jim Rome because he will spend most of the day talking about boxing.
With the state of the sport right now we need more of that, not less. |

Only other national guy I can think of who talks boxing is Stephen A. Smith on ESPN. |

Yeah,Steven Smith(although he can be obnoxious at times)has a lot of fighters as guests and, last season,he usually talked boxing on his show following FNFs. I agree that boxing needs all the publicity it can get. I didnt know Showtime had jumped on the UFC bandwagon. I have watched a match here or there, but no way does it come close to boxing in my mind. Give me a good boxing match anyday.

Well these are good points. After all, as you guys pointed out, there are very few out there who talk about boxing.
I'll just turn down my set and grit my teeth. Sad I have to miss Steward's commentary, however. That guy really knows what he's talking about. I am more impressed every time I hear him.

I will also politely disagree with the first post.
There is no one I'd rather listen to than Lamps to call a fight.
