I'll be there! I'm going Saturday just to lobby for Sambu Kalambay for next year.

June 7-10th.

I'll start my drive out on D-Day and miss all of the inevitable retelecasts of the Longest Day.

Hoping to join Scot (SAL) on a roadtrip east for the big event. A number of great boxers inducted this year. Piedra de Manos himself was amazing in his prime, as was the always under-rated Whitaker and exciting Lopez. Norfolk must have been something to see as well. I would have loved to have seen his battle with Siki - what was described as an absolute bloodbath. Norfolk was scary good in his prime. So was Godfrey, although the suggestion that he'd take a fall shadowed his career.

I'll be saving my loudest cheers for personal hero TAD Dorgan, one of the greatest and most loved sports journalists our country has ever produced. Dorgan coined the phrase "Southpaw" among many others, and was well known for his comedic prose. His baseball and boxing comic panels were the pleasure of readers everywhere in the early part of the 20th century. What they didn't know was that in the last few years of his life, Dorgan was so badly crippled that he drew the comics from his bedside. He was known in his day as a great boxing expert, friend to a number of champions, including Corbett and Tunney. He was one of the few who publicly predicted Jackson's victory over Jeffries. His induction was long overdue. Now if we can get the great writer Hype Igoe in there as well, I will really be happy.

Cool

I'm looking forward to the inductions, as I have not been
to Canastota since the first year of inductions, all inductees
are well deserved.

I have a big problem with Jose Sulaiman who in my mind is more infamous. I had to resist a sudden urge to wretch when I saw his name among the honorees. My memory neeeds refreshing but didn't he once strip one of his alphabet crew's trinket holders of his belt after the guy had fought their number one ranked contender? For fans like me who think that the alphabet boys proliferation of belt-holders is bad for the sport of boxing Sillyman's induction is a slap in the face.

Bear, perhaps I overlooked Sillyman, but their are some
people in the Hall of Fame that I have questioned in the past
such as, Don King who is not the most upstanding individual
the sport has ever seen. Despite his accomplishments.

I was there in year #1 and it is now totally different.....much larger crowds and more boxing celebs walking around.

One time boxing writer Bill O'Neill, former President of the World Boxing Hall of Fame (the west coast rival of the IBHOF) resigned in disgust when Don King and Jose Sulaiman were inducted in the WBHF. He said he couldn't be a part of an organization that would induct those two crooks. Bill remains tight with his buddies from the Hall, but still refuses to be a part of it or even to attend a banquet.

(I. too, have some questions about some of the other inductees.)

I know when Mike Tyson gets inducted it might be a mess in Canastota.
